Alright. For those of you who have not decided if you are going to add Akane-Iro no Somaru Saka into your weekly anime lineup, let me put it straight to you. You should. Why? Because the show is great and it greatly reminds me of Da Capo and Final Approach. If you had liked either of the 2 shows mentioned, you should watch it. If you haven’t watched those shows before, then this anime should be a good introduction into the genre of Romance+Comedy.

Akaneiro1-2
Akane-Iro no Somaru Saka. (No that weird demon thing is not Peke from To-Love Ru)

So before the OP, the story takes place in some Winter Fortress where an agent like person rescues a man and blows the Winter Fortress up. The OP then rolls and we flash to this scene below. Enter Katagiri Yuuhi, our main female lead, a rich ojou-like girl wandering the streets with her big sunglasses when she bumps into 2 guys from around the area. Despite saying her apologies and all, the guys refuse to let her go and soon take off her sunglasses. However, when they do see her face, they decided to ‘invite’ her to ‘play’ around with them instead. As usual, she starts refusing and they start getting rough.

Akaneiro1-3
“Give it back!”

Enter Junichi Nagase, our main protagonist who attempts to help Yuuhi. At first, the guys shrug him off. But when they look at his face, they recognize him as ‘GENOKILLER’, a legend in the area who terrorizes his entire class. They soon put their tails between their legs and ran for their lives.

Akaneiro1-4
“Yo!”

After helping Yuuhi, Junichi heads home to his sister, Minato, while she prepares dinner.

Akaneiro1-6
OTOME!! not…

After dinner and heading to bed, Junichi soon starts dreaming about Yuuh. However, because he refused to introduce himself properly to her earlier on, the dream turns into a nightmare as he ‘transforms’ into GENOKILLER and terrorizes Yuuhi. The dream ends when he wakes up and heads to school with Otome.

Akaneiro1-7
“NO!!! NO RAPE!!!”

Akaneiro1-8
I swear I saw that demon before..

At school, the morning assembly begins with the school president, Mitsuki Shiina, giving the morning assembly. Junichi seats with his friends, Tsukasa Kiryu and Fuyuhiko Nishino and begin talking crap. The scene soon moves to the classroom where homeroom begins with Seijiro Seugihito-sensei who begins the day by making fun of Junichi. When all that is over, he soon introduces a new student to the class. Katagari Yuuhi. After her introduction, she soon moves to her new seat beside Ayanoukuji Karen.

 Akaneiro1-9
“Hello. I’m Hatsune Miku’s sister.”

 Akaneiro1-10
The Three Stooges.

 Akaneiro1-11
Xing-Ke

 Akaneiro1-12
Royal B*tch attitude. :( Original character introduced only in the PS2 version.

Karen offers help to show Yuuhi around, but as soon as she notices Junichi in the class, asks for his help instead. The next day, Karen offers help again but soon declines it once again, as she had made other arrangements to hang out with Junichi and his crowd. This soon attracts the attention of the other girls. Yuuhi soon starts denying any rumors about her going out with Junichi.

Akaneiro1-13
“Nothing sexual going on between us… yet”

When Junichi does step into the class forever, he sees Yuuhi troubled and Fuyuhiko urges him to do the right thing, to save her. With all that ‘brain-washing’ in his head, he heads out to kiss her. This led to everyone in the class going ‘WOW!’. However, Yuuhi, mad that Junichi had stolen her First Kiss, hits him hard in the nuts.

Akaneiro1-14
Wow.
Nice Job.

Akaneiro1-16
Reminds me of Zero no Tsukaima. why should it not, the lead girl are both voiced by Rie.

Back at home, Junichi begins to get reprimanded by Minato about how important a girl’s first kiss is. Suddenly, the doorbell rings and they both head out to open the door. To their surprise, at their door, is Yuuhi and she brings some pretty shocking news to everyone. She is Junichi’s fiance and she is to stay with him now.

Akaneiro1-17
Well this is a shocker. Not..

Random Shots

Akaneiro1-1
Hueco Mundo

Akaneiro1-5
Genokiller

Akaneiro1-15
Tsukasa is kawaii.

Well. This is the end of the review. I personally felt this show has an exceptionally good feel to it. Nothing too harem-ish at the moment and doesn’t give you the same disgusted feeling you had when you heard/watched Kanokon. Well, this show is definetly staying in my to-watch anime list.  Till the next review. Later!
