That's probably the more reasonable thing. If you look back at the previous punishments she's gotten, she got those for minor offences. Beating up Maria would have been something major and she would have probably gotten more than just no food for that. I really do think she was just imagining it. The quality of the animation looks pretty good from the pictures.
