Some Girls Don’t Cosplay – Yeah I Am One of Them!
So we probably heard of Cosplay. Cosplay events are held throughout the year. Many have been organized, well until I lost count how many have been held this year, 2008. Think the most memorable Cosplay Events are Cosfest and EOY(End of Year). There was also the SOY(Start of Year) which I missed because I was too tired. Haha!
I wonder is it me being sensitive or do guys just love to tell me “If I am a girl, I would definitely cosplay!” And so the question of them asking me why I do not cosplay. The reason is simple, like what M said, Singaporeans can’t cosplay for nuts, well mostly. Some do impress me. But I am keen in photography – taking photos of cosplayer, than being the one photographed there.
Why can’t guys cosplay? Actually I seen a number of guy cosplayers at Cosplay Events, and I find nothing wrong.. Well they are limited in a sense because they have to be guy characters. I haven’t seen one cosplaying as a girl character. Even if he did, most likely people will call him a trap. LOL. That being said, I hate guys who tell me that me, a girl should cosplay, because I am a girl. It doesn’t make any sense because cosplay has no limits. Anyone can cosplay, regardless of gender! And if I really did want to cosplay, I will choose to become a Gundam. Yes only that, and nothing else.
At the end of the day, I am just very pissed at guy friends who are in into anime, telling me that I should cosplay because I am a girl. And telling me many many many many times probably just irritated me a lot!
Well I think each of us should respect one’s own views, and I am more towards the side of collecting figurines and stuff – I do not believe in spending my money to cosplay when I can easily use the money to purchase figurines XD. Also I do not want to cosplay only to be laughed at. LOL. Sometimes the cosplaying goes”fail” that it really is a laughing matter!
Was telling my best friend(who happens to watch anime too and he is a guy) of guys telling me that I should cosplay. The moment he heard of this, he told me “they are pervert”. How true is this? I mean why are guys so keen on girls cosplaying a 2D Character? Sure the 2D girl comes to life but in reality, no 3D girl will exist as a 2D girl in terms of character. The real world is cruel. T_T.
What about you? Do you cosplay? Are you a male or female? Do you have any female friends who strongly refuse to cosplay since they are more into collecting figurines etc? ^^
I’m a girl and I’ve never cosplayed… then again I’ve never been to a conventionxD
And the one I plan on going to in feb. I don’t plan on cosplaying~
I can’t sow… I don’t like to spend monies… and I’m very shyxD~ I don’t want attention haha.
Maybe I’ll wear neko mimi or something though~
Other than that… good for cosplayers, but like Zen I have no desire to cosplay myself.

I want to make a Gouf Custom suit with a rotatable gattling cannon-shield similar to the one WiseFreeman has. But I doubt I have the time (that and I’ll probably have to ship it back and forth because my school’s anime club members will want me to walk around in it, if I made it that is).
“Also I do not want to cosplay only to be laughed at. LOL”
Trust me, unless if cosplays are meant to be laughed at, you won’t get that. I’ve seen Sailor Moon Fat guys, other dudes crossdressing as magical girls, and some kid wearing rags, holding two curved, green boards and cardboard cut outs of ears and says he’s Illidan.

Ever thought about that those guys simply want to see you in a skimpy dress?^^
Well Guys and Girls should always do what they want.Dont listen to what other people tell you to do
Personally im not really interested in cosplay.

I’m a girl, and I’ve wanted to cosplay for a while. But something always prevents me from doing it (inability to sow, time commitment, comparison with other cosplayers) I think the best thing to do at a con is to enjoy it, whether you’re cosplaying or not. “If you’re going to cosplay, cosplay with all your heart!” (from Gintama)

I’m a guy, and I do cosplay whenever I fell like it and have the time/money to make one. Cosplaying is enjoyable if you like it, not because someone said so, so yeah, if you like taking photos of Cosplayers then do what you prefer. I’m a Malaysian, so I’m not sure what the situation is like in S’pore, but the last event I went to in Penang and guess what, we had a guy cosplaying as a girl. =P He was cosplaying as one of the “Princess” in Princess Princess, though I forgot which princess it was. But my favourite was when a guy was cosplaying Kon.

Im a guy. I dont cosplay. But.. I. Do. Not. Want. To cosplay. Done.

I’m pretty sure guys stereotypically (or maybe more than stereotypically) like female cosplayers for the obvious reasons…I suppose the pics of pro cosplayers like Mizuhara Arisa and Kipi kinda get to our heads sometimes ^^;;
For me personally, though, I don’t think I would be interested in cosplaying whether I were male OR female. I wouldn’t mind taking pictures of (good) cosplayers, but I doubt I’d ever actually take part. I guess it’s like how some otaku will never buy a PVC figure in their lives and others will always wait for the season to end so that they can marathon everything they missed.

This remiinds me of the comment you made on how one can’t expect a 3D to be like 2D, and I can’t agree more to that :o
Male cosplay + crossdressing… I haven’t seen one personally, but my sister has: a Lacus Clyne and a Dejiko in some random ACG convention 2 years ago

my 2-cents on this topics.
there are the types that can cosplay, the type that can’t.
Japanese invented cosplay. Leave it to them to do it. (Btw, this message is to Singaporeans)
Do you know how ugly you people look when you cosplay? Singaporeans, other than the 1 or 2 really really good looking cosplay, can’t cosplay for nuts. Why? Those who cosplay are those fat, insecure losers that have inferiority complex, so much that they rather hide themselves behind COOL anime characters, to hide who they really are.
Truth is, dressing up as anime characters doesn’t make them cool, it just makes the rest of us sick.
(Cosplayers, flame me if you want, this is the truth. Unless you look so cute(for girls)/hot(for girls, and maybe the guys), handsome(for guys), beautiful (for girls), don’t ever try to cosplay. Unless of course, you’re hiding behind a mask.)

Guys just ask girls to cosplay because they want to see them in maid uniforms and outfits like that lol. It’s the real reason, trust me.

I have a female friend who tried to force me to cosplay; thank god she didn’t succeed….

I would never cosplay unless I was paid to. And 100 bucks won’t even do.

That’s the strangest logic I’ve ever heard.
You should cosplay because you want to. Cosplaying is expensinve! So it must be done because it’s worth it.
That’s my 2 cents on that.
And it’s for boys or girls. I don’t see how being a girl makes it a necessity. Those guys must be perverts or something

I absolutely LOVE to cosplay. But I cosplay guys (ima girl). *CROSSPLAYINGFTW*
I once saw an old man cosplaying Rhode Kamelot. (which scared me because I was cosplaying Allen at the time…)
