Blood: The Last Vampire Live Action- Preview

I wasn’t overly impressed with it, but I don’t generally like Japanese movies, let alone live action adaptions of anime, but then again I didn’t like the first five minutes of the animated version of Blood: The Last Vampire either, so I will probably give it another chance.
For those of you who don’t know this movie, its based off of the 2000 animated movie of the same name. Despite being acclaimed as a masterpiece, and now a classic, I didn’t think it had much of a plot. A young girl named Saya has a sword and goes around killing freaky demons in 1960’s Japan. So far the movie is being very faithful to the original, and I feel that Jeon Ji-hyun is a very appropriate actress to play Saya.
When I heard there was going to be a live action adaption of this series I was actually hopeful that they might incorporate elements from Blood+, the two season sequel to the original animated film that filled in plot holes of the original movie… such as who and what Saya was, and why she’s killing those demons. Being even more optimistic I prayed that the movie would take place in Vietnam like many of her bone chilling flashbacks in Blood+, or at least had Saya’s hot vampire-ish slave Haji, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.
This movie will air May 29, 2009 in Japan, and at a later date this summer in north American theaters.

Wow, it actually looks pretty good. Usually I hate live action adaptations. I didn’t even see Dragonball because it looks so stupid. I’m glad to see that it doesn’t look like they botched Blood, which is awesome.

I’m soooo excited about this! Was a big fan of the OAV but started watching Blood+ recently and the characterisation of Saya is appalling…having seen the original first the only thing that makes the series bearable is the hotness of Haji ;)
