Goodbye 4Kids

So anyone here heard of 4Kids before? They’re like the company that brought Anime titles such as One Piece and Pokemon to the North American market.

Pokemon!!

The paidContent.org website for digital media news is reporting that the 4Kids Entertainment licensing and broadcasting company has put itself up for sale.

I for one loved this company for they were the ones supplying the English-dubbed Pokemon episodes which I used to watch many moons again. Then after more or less giving up on the Pokemon Anime, this company slipped off my radar till now. While personally not really being affected by this, it is sad that it’s being sold off as they did, in a sense, helped popularize anime.

    That’s a shame…

Despite how much people like to make fun of them, I rather liked 4kids =(

4Kids Entertainment brought out some of the best dub series ever. Off course, everyone knows them when it comes to pokemon.
It will be sad when they are not around anymore.

While I’m upset at the effect it will have on anime sales in the US… part of me is happy to hear this xD
4Kids… while having some decent voice overs (Yugioh comes to mind… Best dub voices ever)~ The way they censored and butchered stories was almost unforgivable xP

I admit that I enjoyed watching Pokemon far too much when it first came out in the US. (And I was happy to meet Veronica Taylor and Rachel Lillis at an anime con)

But considering the mess they made of some of the properties they licensed (for example, One Piece), I don’t think there are too many folks that will miss them.

On the other hand, it’s sad to see another sign that the anime industry has problems, and the English-language market may be dying.

For One Piece, I shall always loath you.

For Shaman King, I shall always love you.

In the years that follow, I’ll probably only remember the epic Shaman King dub.

It’s kinda like Michael Jackson that way…yeah…
