Tokyopop Releases Manga Online
Tokyopop, one of the biggest American distributors of Manga has announced that they will start releasing some of their series online. Some of announced series are PSY*COMM, Boys of Summer, Earthlight, Patheon High, Undertown, Gyakushuu, Kat & Mouse, and a plethora of non-Japanese Manga.
Ealier this summer Shounen Jump (Japan) announced they would start putting manga online, and manga is available for purchase in Japan through the PSN for PSP users.
Its a shame I don’t recognize any of the titles Tokyopop will be releasing. Its more like a commercialized scheme to get rid of the crappy series no one buys, but I suppose this is a step in the right direction. At least Yuki will be happy to surf manga on the web.

I think the move is an effort to build an audience for their North American titles…. I hope it works out for them, but I don’t enjoy reading manga on a computer screen very much. I doubt I’d be motivated to try a totally new (to me) series that way — I have a hard enough time remembering to check out Rumiko Takahashi’s Rin-ne, and I’m actually a fan of her work.

Well, I think a start is a start. I mean, they have to start somewhere. For me, I like to hold papers in my hands as well, but I do know some people actually don’t mind reading manga on a computer screen.
