Oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why is To LOVE-Ru ending!!!!

Mikan-Lala-Haruna

From ANN,

This year’s 39th issue of Shueisha’s Shonen Jump magazine has confirmed on Monday that Saki Hasemi and Kentaro Yabuki’s To Love-Ru -Trouble- manga will end its serialization in the next issue on August 31.

I’m one sad person right now. I remember starting To LOVE-Ru sometime last year when the anime came out. My first impression? “Wow! Soooooo MANY GIRLSSS!!!” Haha.

That was the ‘pervert’-side of me that got me started on the anime and when the anime ended, I continued on to the manga to get a weekly fix of To-LOVE Ru. Strangely though, I became more attracted to the story line rather than the girls. Ok sure, the girls were still a high point for me to read the manga weekly, but it was other factors that made To LOVE-Ru stand out from all the other harem-ish manga/anime i read/watch.

There’s comedy, character development for key characters, and there’s the never ending battle in Rito’s head on who’s he gonna pick. Lala or Haruna. At various points in time, I’m sure fans of Saki, Yui and Yami were rooting for their heroines to end up with Rito but I never really saw that coming. For me, it was either Haruna or Lala but mainly Lala.

I mean, after all, Lala’s 2 sisters appeared sometime late in the manga and started living in Rito’s house as well. I’m still a big big fan of Haruna but I just don’t see her getting the happy ending with Rito, unless the story ends with a harem ending, but that’s not really an ending, now is that.

As such, I’m sad that this brilliant manga series is ending. With this week’s chapter currently in the works of being scanlated and next week’s chapter yet to be released, there’s 2 more chapters for me to read.

  • For those of you who do read the TLR manga, it’s a sad day for us.
  • For those of you who have given up on the TLR manga, do pick it up and read it again. It’s a good read. It’s a light hearted change from all the heavy shounen-manga stuff that’s always seem to be overly popular.
  • For those of you have not started on the TLR manga, it’s not too late to start. If you hurry and rush it through, you could catch up before the series end.

    Hmm. I don’t think so. There are 3 more OVAs to be released, so if at the end of the final OVA there’s an announcement, we’ll know. :D

    I usually read naruto and bleach for their action/power and then read To-love-ru as a light hearted way to balance it off with humor and ecchi.
    TO-love-ru is still one of the greatest harem/ecchi type manga out there, it still has a huge fan base so i can’t understand why they would end it so suddenly. Author dude i think we are on the same boat, i started reading it for the ecchi but continued reading it because of the story/humor/character development. I read heaps of ecchi manga but don’t usually read right through to the end because usually they just can’t compare with to-love-ru’s awesomeness. One of my friends said that when he found out that they were ending it, he actually shouted noooooooooooo so loudly that the neighbors can rushing thinking that something had happened to him HAHAHAHA. he has been totally depressed ever since (not joking) he doesn’t stop talking about how much he wants to kill the shonen jump executives (not joking). He has totally boycotted the authors of the manga for ending it. Though i am not as extreme i can kind of understand his outrage. Hope this is just a publicity stunt or something like that. It would be unbelievably great if it could come back.

    In all seriousness I do feel bad for fans though~
    But Harem series I’ve found never have very enjoyable endings~ Whether they’re aloud to run on for year or if they are cut short.

    @C

    Yea it did. Haha. I’m really pissed off by it though

    @Manga Maniac and wdaf

    Haha. Yea me and my friend who reads it were pretty much in shock as well when we found out it was ending. But then, it ending so soon isn’t much of a shock to me. There had been talks a few months back, like when Kodomo no Jikan was released on anime, that manga/anime like To LOVE-Ru might be too visual to be released weekly in a magazine every teenage boy in Japan can get their hands on, so I was more or less mentally prepared for it ending soon.

    But still, the ending was lacklusture. Harem ending. :(

    @bluesnow

    Oh man. You know I wanted to add 1 last line to my post, something along the lines of,

    “For those who really hate harem/ecchi series such as TLR, (looks at bluesnow) shout Hurray!!!”

    @ric

    yes. very much agree so. It’s really good as a harem/ecchi/comedy series.

    I do hope that the mangaka does something similar to what School Rumble did.

    The thing is when School Rumble ended, they came out with School Rumble Z which is like a set of filler chapters and a real ending to the story. So i’ve very much hoping that by the 6th OVA of To LOVE-Ru, there’ll be an announcement like…… “Coming Soon in 20XX, To Love-Ru the manga returns.” haha. Somewhere along those lines.

    @For fans of ecchi series

    Read Ane Doki. It’s drawn by the same mangaka that did Ichigo 100% and Hatsukoi Gentei. It’s pretty fun to read for it’s ecchiness and comedy actually.

    @For fans who want to fill the gap in Comedy Manga

    Medaka Box. Medaka reminds me of Kotegawa Yui, except she’s the main lead this time and is much much more assertive.

    I can’t believe it. I have followed this since day 1. And to hear that this is all because of Kentaro Yabuki’s wife (soon to be ex if not already so) and former assistant.

    If anyone sees her in the street, I hope she gets whats coming to her. She sounds like an awful person.

    And what makes it worse … its because of her this fantastically humorous series is coming to an end.

    I loved the illustrations and the characters. They will be sorely missed.

    Sleeping with another man. Kidnapping daughter. Asking for all his money as apparently the character of Haruna was based on her or something. And something about rights to the series.

    Might have to google it to get further details. It seems really messy.

    I don’t like this strange ending too but I read on internet that the mangaka wants to write the end of this story because Haruna resemble him his wife and they broke up. In this part of the story the harem ending is the only one possible because Lala, Haruna, Run, Yui, Momo and Celine are all in love with Rito… (and Nene, Mikan and Yami are also interested in him)

  • Tommy said:

    Well…still he can create a better ending…..not end up at 162…at less should keep on until they finish their high school life..it’s still just half of their high school year2 !

    @john, Tommy, Marco

    Thanks for the info. But damn, to end it cause his wife, now probably ex-wife, resembled Haruna?! Ah Damn

    @Bsrkt

    Me too. I want more TLR, but this looks like the end.

    @Marco

    Nahhh> I still, prefer it if they didn’t end it in a Harem ending. I would have liked to see them do a Ichigo 100% instead, where they fast fowarded the plot a few years where everyone went their separate ways and the lead landed with just 1 girl.

    @Tommy

    I so totally agree. Should have gone on for a little longer.

    I do prefer the harem ending … guess I saw it coming and I didn’t want any of the girls to be upset. And when I say Harem type ending, I dont mean them all. Possibly Haruna, Lala and Yui. Yui was weasling her way in this year wasn’t she and she was really growing on me. Yami, I would have been afraid she would kill me in my sleep. The two younger sisters. That’s a little weird. Run perhaps …

    So sad … so many possible paths and story lines. And his art work was second to none. The best I have ever seen. He really knew how to put pen to paper and capture some amazing feminine qualities.

    Gah, I feel like a part of me just died, seriously. that was a really good manga, one that I can relate to. I do like how he spends time with them all…[especially yui kotegawa ^^ she was my fav, manga + anime] but I reckon that Rito should have been a true male and confess, not go in circles for 162 chapters. i also disagree about how you can live with a girl, that would go to the ends of the earth for you, trying so hard…and not end up loving her.

    I can also easily and truthfully say if I had that talent + time, i would DEFINTELY continue TLR, but..I dont.
    Please come back!!

    >>What I want for an alternative ending<Lala, I think could find anyone as she’s the princess of the universe, and I’m sure there’s another Rito-type if there’s 92837402135793485 planets existing…
    >Haruna..a far admirer, maybe end up with Saruyama [the pervert]?! Well that’d prob solve his pervertedness. Run/Ren is hopeless…you can’t love someone if your both genders…would get too complicating.
    >Saki + Zastin, HAHA
    >Momo + Nana, both princesses as well, can find someone.
    >Celine is just too young at the moment..[Her and Rito, ughh]
    >Mekan is his sister!! [even if they aren't blood related, need to check on that] and she is asked out by heaps of guys at school. Find a young Rito type guy then.

  • Bradley said:

    Why did it skip the best line

    Rito + Yui, they are different yes, but they are different in the sense that they complete each other’s emptiness. Yui is shy, and she needs Rito to guide her [like Yuu {Kotegawa} did] I think Yui, being very independant went through alot to get Rito to notice. That deserves Commendation!

    [Reply]

  • john said:

    Yui doesn’t even know or acknowledge the fact she likes Rito. It was really starting to hotten up between the two. The chocolate she made for him … even questioning sometimes the clothes she was wearing. Rito had thought she hated him. He thinks Yami wants to kill him …

    I am not sure what was going on when Mekan was suddenly not really his sister. That one opened up a whole kettle of worms for Rito for no doubt he loves her but it was in a family way. It’s a spanner in the works if Mekan started pushing things.

    The story was far from finished wasn’t it? Such a shame. PLEASE COME BACK. And I have still haven’t seen an artist like him. I wish I could be that good.

    How would everyone feel if I said I thought about making a To Love-Ru spin off manga?

    To put it in other terms, I was really upset that To Love-Ru ended and I really wanted more, but instead of going on a rampage on the mangaka’s front door I decided to make up a little spin-off sort-of side story centered around mainly one character of the story and my own character creation. I am a To Love-Ru fan and I’m a young story maker/daydreamer so I came up with bit of a plot. I just wanted to know what everyone thought about the idea of making spin-offs directed to different characters so to fill in the blanks. Right now it doesn’t look like the mangaka is in the mood to do it, so I thought at least I’ll make the story for him and see if he is up to making the charcters.

    So what do you think? If you like the idea then I’ll tell you who my protagonists are. :p
    But it’s just a thought and right now I hate that it’s over, so I wanted advice. I would appreciate the comments.
