How many of you actually caught the “first” season of FMA, and did not bother watching the remake. I know bluesnow is one of them. As for me, I’m watching FMA: Brotherhood on a weekly basis. I get the feeling that I’ll drop the series if I ever backlog it =/

Fullmetal Alchemist: Remake Worth It?

The release of TV ratings just showed us that either not many were going to watch the remake, or.. no one was interested. LOL.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Remake Worth It?

The original maintained an average of 6% throughout its 50 episodes. The remake on the other hand manages an average of a mere 3.3%, and falling fast, less than half way through.

I’m catching the anime on a weekly basis, so at least I’m still not backlogging the show yet. I think it’s the suspense factor. Every time I finished each episode, I don’t feel the rage of wanting to watch the next episode as soon as possible. =/. Are you watching the remake too? Did you watch the original FMA before?

I still think the remake was unnecessary and way too soon, but after it broke away from the original series around episode 13 or so, it really has been quite good. I’m surprised to see that ratings are actually going down.

Looking at recent popular Japanese anime, and FMA Brotherhood, the reason for FMA Brotherhood’s complete failure is obvious.

It doesn’t suck. I mean I think the popularity would go through the roof if Brotherhood spent 8 episodes on the exact same plot exceptAl and Ed wear different clothes. What if they started to glorify the actions of Imperial Japan in World War II? It would probably be in the 10.00 range. Hell just use footage from previous episodes, including footage from the first series, and I think the series would be more popular.

I’m reading the manga~ but I haven’t really wanted to watch the new series xD

What are you talking about? Of course Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is waaaaaaaaay better than the first series because it faithfully follows manga story but the first series did not follow completely. For those that thinks that FMA:Brotherhood is sucks, just watch ep 19 and you can tell the difference.

P/S: Are you sure that information at SankakuComplex is real? Because it is only shows rating graph from unknown sources.

This is kind of a shock to me really. I thought the fans will be loving the remake as it’s following the manga. Many always said, ‘the manga, better” or :”read the manga” or “the series was good but the manga was better” etc. Well, the remake is based on the manga. @_@
I’m guessing many ppl are just over the FMA fandom or is it because of the animation. I gotta admit, the animation production is kinda poor compared to the original.

Well, I’m still loving the remake. I don’t read mangas so this is exciting. ^^

Well the problem with many manga fans (myselft included) has been the constant cuts from the source material so making us rage a bit but overall Brotherhood is way better than the first series

Optic: The problem is that people gave up by episode 2. I mean most anime fans don’t know that we have had completely new material since episode 14. Basically people didn’t want a remake they wanted Fullmetal House Painter, where Ed and Al become house painters.

Interesting chart about the ratings. I have to say I’m a bit surprised by the drop in viewership as well as your own ambivalent feelings over the series. Personally, I find the 2nd series better for the most part though I do wish a couple of things had not been dropped. Still, once the series hit new territory, I’ve been very excited to watch new episodes even though my time to dedicate to anime and manga is much more limited these days.

Lots of people dropped the series after the first few epsides because they couldn’t find the differences with the first series, or that they’ve been following the manga that they don’t find the point of following the same thing that’s been animated.

I personally enjoy the new series, so is a friend of mine who’s been following the manga closely. I thought that it’s doing quite alright, and Hong Kong is airing the series too with just a couple of episodes behind Japan (first of a kind) with dub being an option too.

Personally, those who have dropped it should continue.

I for one know this, cause I put this anime on hold around episode 10 due to studies and when i started watching the rest of the episodes, I was shocked at how much I could have missed, if i had dropped it totally.

-comment edited. no spoilers for anyone who hasnt seen it yet. :)

I enjoy the new series. I haven’t read the manga, but Brotherhood is said to stick to the original story from manga, so it should please those who have read it, as they often say that manga version is better and people should read it rather than watch the anime (first adaptation). Yet, less people watch it. I don’t really get it.
I wonder how many episodes is left. It would seem too rushed if they intended to finish it in some 5 episodes and make it a 2-season (26 episodes) anime. Anyways, I will miss it once it is over.

@ RP: I actually read the manga like many years ago, so I can’t really remembered what happened in the manga. But I have to say, I was bored in the beginning of the remake. So far it’s good. I’m just not looking forward to the new episodes – probably because I’m looking to my other anime shows =P

@ Charred Knight: I believe that there are a lot of people who are too lazy to start on it. Upon hearing the word “remake”, not many people would want to watch it. I have friends who are pretty picky about their anime but when they heard that this was a remake, they totally did not want to catch the anime! :(

@ bluesnow: Yeah you’re always soooo picky :(

@ Chez: I personally stopped reading the manga, and I can’t remember what happened in the first season. That being said, the anime is still okay for me, now. Maybe I’m just looking forward to watching Valkyria Chronicles every week, instead of FMA. LOL. Sankaku Complex, no idea whether the source is reliable, I have been trying to check for it. It might not be true, but I believe the graph to a certain extent since I know many of my friends aren’t catching the remake :(

@ Optic: I don’t remember the manga.. so I have no say whether the remake is better than the original one. LOL. According to others as mentioned here, the remake is following the manga, so I guess it’s good =D.

@ Bartz Klauser: that is one reason why I don’t bother to read manga nowadays =/

@ AstroNerdBoy: I believe my own thoughts of not feeling the urge to catch each episode asap could have been due to the other anime shows I am catching. Lol they make me more anxious than anything =X

@ Q: yeah totally agree with you there. I’m catching it now to see how the story goes for now….

    @ M: SPOILER TAG!!!

@ Matteas: I can’t find the number of episodes it will have in total, but I’m hoping that they don’t follow too much of it and cut it off suddenly, like D.Gray-Man :(

Ehhhhh, I think M said a bit too much here. He went off topic and starting ruining it for everyone. :P
    It’s a good thing I’m up-to-date with the series or I would’ve cursed him. :P

@ Zen: Someone who chooses their anime based on their favorite seiyuu isn’t aloud to call me too picky xP

@ Optic: Lol yeah exactly, I need to scold him =X

@ Bluesnow: LOL. Well I don’t choose ALL of my anime based on my fave seiyuu! :P.
