Souichiro Hoshi 保志 総一朗
For a site with more than 50% of the staff being female, you’d expected more Male Seiyuus featured right? That has not been the case for zotaku, seeing how as our first Male Seiyuu featured was Mamoru Miyano and that was over a month ago.
As such, this week’s Seiyuu Sunday will be featuring a Male Seiyuu. Presenting, Souichiro Hoshi.
Name: 保志 総一朗
Country: Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan
Birthday: 1972年05月30日
Blood Type: B
Website: http://www.artsvision.co.jp/data.php?id=687/
You might probably know him from:
- Ai Yori Aoshi (TV) as Kaoru Hanabishi
- Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (TV) as Gino Weinberg
- Digimon Savers the Movie – Ultimate Power! Burst Mode Invoke!! as Masaru Daimon
- Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai (TV) as Keiichi Maebara
- Law of Ueki (TV) as Seiichirou Sano
- Macross Frontier (TV) as Brera Sterne
- MÄR (TV) as Alviss
- Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (TV) as Kira Yamato
- Please Teacher! (TV) as Kei Kusanagi
- Saiyuki Reload (TV) as Son Goku
- S-CRY-ed (TV) as Kazuma
- Sengoku Basara (TV) as Sanada Yukimura
- Shining Tears X Wind (TV) as Souma Akizuki; Zero
- Tenjho Tenge (TV) as Souichirou Nagi
For me, his most notable appearance would be when he voiced Sanada Yukimura in Sengoku Basara. I loved the character of Yukimura in SB mainly because he was young, strong, loyal and alot of other things. However, the most notable feature of Shouichiro’s portrayal of Yukimura would have to be the part where Yukimura and his Oyakata-sama kept calling each other. For the video, do visit bluesnow’s post about her micro-impressions of the series.
His next most notable role for me would be as Gino in Code Geass R2. His role was probably obscured due to the fact that his co-stars, Jun Fukuyama and Takahiro Sakurai who voiced Lelouch and Suzaku respectively, were already big seiyuu names which had the entire of Season 1 to gather fans. Note that these 2 names will be covered under Seyiuu Sunday sometime soon.
Now, I’ve talked alot about Souichiro’s roles in Sengoku Basara and Code Geass R2, but many (especially zenical) will probably ask. Why no mention about his role as Kira Yamato. Haha. Well, it more or less boils down to the fact that I didn’t watch much of Gundam Seed and as such have not much to say about him voicing Kira Yamato.
Well, that’s another Male Seiyuu down under the Weekly Sunday Seiyuu column. The next few male seiyuus I’d like to write about are probably Jun Fukuyama, Takahiro Sakurai and probably Norio Wakamoto. Stay tuned!
And these are the pictures of the character’s he voiced.

His most memorable role for me will be Ai Yori Aoshi (TV) as Kaoru Hanabishi and Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai (TV) as Keiichi Maebara.

@zen
:D of course. :D
@Optic
Ai Yori Aoshi. I never really watched that though. What’s it about?

For me, his most memorable voice is Kusanagi Kei in Onegai Teacher (I don’t think he had any lines in Twins other than a few cameos).
Aside from that is a bunch of support characters. I thought Matt Hill did a better job than him at Kira in SEED.

He has one of the most distinguishable voice among the seiyuus that I know =)

Wow c’mon people, most memorable role would have to be as Kira Yamato in Gundam Seed.
I can still recall him with his battle cries as multitudes of Zakus blew up around him. =P
