Mooncakes!
Yesterday was a trip down to the town area in Singapore to purchase mooncakes. I love mooncakes, and hence I went to the “fair” after school. LOL. Overly excited I guess XP.
For folks who never heard of “Mooncake” before, here’s some explaination ^_^:
Mooncakes are Chinese pastries traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival is for lunar worship and moon watching; moon cakes are regarded as an indispensable delicacy on this occasion. Mooncakes are offered between friends or on family gatherings while celebrating the festival, one of the three most important Chinese festivals.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around mid or late September in the Gregorian calendar.
Well, for now, the date is only on the 1st Day of the Eighth month in the Chinese calendar, but I’m sure it won’t hurt to start sales of the mooncakes earlier right? :P
The fair will be ending on the 4th of October, 2009. Hoping to go there one to two more times before it’s over!
I bought Green Tea flavor, if anyone wants to know XD. Oh and there is 1 mooncake missing because I wasn’t able to resist the urge to eat it before taking a photo.. Oops ;)
Anyone eaten “mooncakes” before? (Excluding folks from Singapore)

Yes, because I’m Chinese.
BTW, do you know when the Mid-Autumn’s festival (or whatever 中秋节 is called in English) is taking place this year? (If it’s in October I may actually be able to spend it with my family.

Last year in my Chinese history class the teacher had bought mooncakes for everyone (I had never heard of them before that though) ^.^
I tried one… But I think it must be an acquired taste~ I couldn’t really finish it ^.^”
Mine was kinda sweet and bitter at the same time… I can’t remember what flavor it was… I remember it was the last one I wanted to try though… But I was in the back of the room so that was all that was left.
I was much more fond of the Chinese candies she brought in… They where white hard candies that were really yummy~ That were small and round and covered in rice paper… don’t know what they were called though. once a week she’d pass some around until the Tainted milk scare >.<

Yes, our family have them every year. My dad and sister loves them and I enjoy a piece or 2. (Note: Not the whole cake itself because I can’t finish it. lol)
The festival here is held at the city in Chinatown. I recall going there for 1 of the years but it’s so long now I can’t remember a thing that happened. Also when I was still a kid, my family bought those lanterns where we play in the backyard but I remember my one going up in flames. :S

@ GNdynames: It’s on 3rd October this year! Early october I guess, I’m having my mini celebration in advance :P
@ bluesnow: I think I know that sweet.. I have to find it in stores and take a picture and ask you ^_^
@ phossil: it’s delicius all right! There are many flavors, but the greentea one isn’t the original one. Haha. The normal one is the brownish mooncake in the first picture =3.
@ Optic: I remember my lantern going up in flames too. orz. Oh chinatown there, I know of that area, my cousin lives there now, so she goes there for her shopping of stuff.. But according to her, chinese stuff located over there is horrible XD
@ atmchino: I don’t like the yolk too =/
