The next pick for Seiyuu Sunday! What better way to feature Hocchan on Zotaku, but to do it on her birthday? XP. Hocchan is the main reason why I am catching up on some old shows which I never bothered to pick up in the past. It’s interesting to see how she voices the various anime characters, and in turn, I end up loving her more ^^.

Yui Horie 堀江 由衣

Name: 堀江 由子
Country: Katsushika, Tokyo, Japan
Birthday: 1976年9月20日
Height: 155cm
Blood Type: B
Hobbies: Reading, Cooking and Shoulder Massage
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/artist/horie/

She is known as Hocchan, ほっちゃん by her Japanese fans, and of course I call her that too, so you might be seeing a lot of “Hocchan” around. If you didn’t know, I’m refering to her XD. And her birth name is Horie Yoshiko, 堀江 由子. She is known by the name Horie Yui, 堀江 由衣!

You will know her from the various anime series [ANN]:

I can go on forever, because the ones I featured here are the ones I know her from, I already excluded some, I wanted to include more still… :P Do check out the main list here.

She’s also a singer and has released a number of singles and albums. Her singles are mostly related to anime series OP/ED songs while her albums will contain new songs sang by Hocchan :). She has worked with Yukari Tamura, Aice5 and Kurobara Hozonkai.

As a child, she was a huge fan of the anime series Dirty Pair and has later stated that the series was her first inspiration to become a voice artist

Yeah, congratulations to Hocchan, all her hard work paid off as I’m sure everyone will know of the name Yui Horie now.. I found out about her while I was doing some research on YUI XD. It seems that a lot of people get confused over the two of them. They think that YUI is Yui Horie, but actually they’re two different people!

And now, 30 anime characters that Hocchan has voiced. How many can you recognise?

It was so fun doing Seiyuu Sunday of Hocchan, I kept going “AHH this anime character! I know her XD”

Scanning through the list, I think Shaman King is the first anime show that has Hocchan in it. Oh speaking of which, a few years back I listened to the songs in Shaman King, and you know what, there is a song sung by Hocchan! This must be fate! Now the love for Hocchan has awaken. Heheh.

And below is the song! Enjoy!

I will continue to love you forever Hocchan XD. Speaking of which, today is Hocchan’s Birthday. Do wish her Happy Birthday!

The first time she caught my attention was when she played Eri in School Rumble. After that, the best role she’s ever done was Minori from Toradora. She’s a pretty solid and versatile seiyuu, but I can’t say she really fascinated me though.
Yui’s music is passable too (although I don’t know any songs apart from her OP/ED performances) but I’m not all that fond of her looks. For some reason, when I look at some of her PVs, it feels as if she barely ever changes her facial expression. Looks as if a doll was dancing or so, heh.
(She’s a lot older than she looks too! Didn’t think she was in her 30s already.)

    Coincedience!? I THINK NOT!!!! XD

    A few surprises include:
    # Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! (TV) as Manami Amamiya (are u serious, I love that character)
    # IDOLM@STER: XENOGLOSSIA (TV) as Yukiho Hagiwara (ZOMG, I don’t really like her but I love her now ;) )
    # Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai (TV) as Hanyuu (now it makes sense. lol)

I find her most standout performance was Suzu in Nagasarete Airantou because not only she was the main seiyuu, she sang the OP and ED for the series. :3

In addition to her most standout performance, I gotta say Ayu Tsukimiya in Kanon was another one.

[...] Another Character Song Volume that was out on 7 October, 2009. Character songs are pretty decent if you actually gave them a try. And well, yes that was how Hocchan started on her path to singing too. She sang character songs and soon, she released her first album. Okay back to the topic before I go off course with my Hocchan obsession :X. This single features Jessica and Maria with their character songs. Jessica is voiced by Marina Inoue, while Maria is voiced by Yui Horie(HOCCHAN!!!) [...]

    My favourite seiyuu ever.
I knew her first in Sasaki Makie from Negima and then in Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina. Almost each anime I really love, she’s in there. Her voice is cute and fun. And she is so beautifuuul ! <3
I listen all the time all her songs. I’m happy just by hearing her voice in any anime I look.
    HOCCHAN FOR EVEEEER !!
