Halo Legends was officially announced at Comic-Con ‘09, and then on September 17, it was previewed on Spike TV. For those who didn’t get the chance to catch it, you can view it below! I’m not sure if Spike TV or Microsoft will be taking it down, so watch it while its still up =).

Halo Legends - Master Chief

“It’s a wildly varied genre, but anime creators do things with weapons and vehicles and technology nobody else does and that marries very well with Halo. It’s amazing to see some of the new stuff they’re introducing and how neatly it maps to the visual aesthetics in the Halo universe”

- Frank O’Connor, Creative Director of 343 Industries (via Halopedia)

Halo Legends is a series of *7 short anime films created by 5 Japanese production houses: Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio 4°C, and Toei Animation. 6 of the 7 short films will be focused on the main Halo storyline, whereas the 7th will be a parody of the Halo universe.

The title of this preview is called “The Babysitter”. I’m not sure, but after watching this preview, I didn’t feel that it was anything… Special. It didn’t give me a feeling of “I want to watch it NOW!!”. I can’t say that it is bad as well because it is, well, not bad. I guess it is average? I know the first turn off for me was during the cafeteria scene, because I do not really like the simplicity of the character illustration. However, that may be a kind of style that they are aiming for? Alright, so to be on the safe side, I shall say that the character illustration does not really suit my taste.

I also do not really like the inconsistency of the level of detail on the armor of Master Chief and the ODST members. Sometimes the armors look good thanks to the different tones of shades on it, but other times it looks like a flat one tone color. Hmm… Am I being too picky…? You guys watch it and tell me what you think about it. I really want to know your opinions on this >.<.

*UPDATE – According to M, Halo Legends seem to have eight short films instead of seven. M told me that he has a slip of paper that came with his loot, which is an advertisement for Halo Legends and it clearly states that there are eight short films. Hmm… Lets hope to hear some details on this 8th film soon.

    It feels very oriented for western viewers, which is expected for series that are usually from Bones.

    oh I see o.o hmm I wonder if the 5 production houses will be able to keep the whole series consistent. I know it’s difficult though because each have their own unique style of protesting certain things.

    @bluesnow
    yeah it seems like there are too many hand-to-hand combat >.<

    when I first saw that sniper rifle, I was like “oh yes!” but in the end master chief didn’t use it =(

    @M
    can that be done in odst? =O

    @Q: This is probably because it is directed towards Westerners, even at my school one of the kendo club members told me to get a PS3 rather than a 360.

    @Guuzen: I’m no expert but I think either the Master Chief or another Spartan killed 2 or 3 out of 4 ODST members and sent the rest to the hospital, when he was like 14 or something, during a spar.

    Also, is that Master Chief or is it an unknown Spartan?
