While it is very rare of me to say anything negative about my favorite series Rurouni Kenshin, I had never heard the Animax English dub till now. The dub which aired and was released in America was by Media Blasters and was by dub standards, decent.

samurai X

If you for some reason wished to listen to the Animax Dub it is available free online at crackle.

Kenshin’s voice is actually tolerable, but it seemed a little bit too childish and hyper compared to any Kenshin I would imagine. Perhaps “Worst Dub ever” Is a bit strong, but in contrast to the original seiyuu and media blaster dub, it is clearly far inferior. Kenshin also doesn’t speak like this, that he doesn’t.

I only watched the first episode because I started to loose focus shortly after I heard a high pitch “Korry” call “KenChin” “BaTWOsai the Slasher.”

I’m going to go gag now.

*After speaking to others there is a possibility that this is only available in the United States

(And its just a coincidence this is my 3rd Rurouni Kenshin related post in a week, I’m normally not this obsessive xD)

This…. hurts….. Like seriously? I’m sorry, but the original Dub was fine for me. Why would anyone make a WORSE dub than the original.

As a side-note, if i hear BatTWOsai one more time or more destruction of the japanese words…. i will shoot a baby. >_>

*is a little irked by someone messing with one of my favorite anime/manga series*

hah. i was wondering what you meant by the “baTWOsai” part. just didn’t understand it when i read it. but when i heard it…yeah. there’s a reason why translations are normally crappy. asian sounds don’t translate directly into english vocal pronunciations. if they want to transform it, they should change the names, and/or remake the whole thing with the same concept…no wait, it might come out like fox’s crappy specialeffects rendition of dragonball evolution. it’s like dubbing the godfather into chinese. Don’t ruin an original.

I loved this dub. It was the FIRST EVER english dub and well I grew accustomed to them speaking this way. When I heard the redubbed media blasters version, I could have gagged. It sounded so gay. But anyway, we all have our own preference! =)

First off, this isn’t the worst dub ever. That distinction belongs to the original Bubblegum Crisis dub that Animego produced. Listen to that dub if you want to know true pain. This dub is actually not that bad. The Media Blaster’s dub is better, but this isn’t horrible. Also, this dub was produced FIRST. It was produced by Sony when they were trying to sell it to tv stations back in 1999. They failed in the US, and eventually licensed the tv series to Media Blasters, who commissioned a new dub. I think if they were to get the series now, they would’ve licensed/used Sony’s dub, rather than pay for a new one, so be grateful it was released back then.

OK how can you (or anyone else for that matter)like the gay dub version by MB better -__- . Worst thing about that dub would be hearing Kenchi (i refuse to use his other bullshit name from the other version) always saying something gay like “that i am” or “hes a young sworsdman that he is” at the end of every sentence. And FYI the dub by sony was the first and original english version ever made in 1999. the only reason they made the other ones was because it was too inappropriate for younger kids (asin they spoke more aggressively with bad words and it had too much blood) so they wanted to make a completely new dub and edited all the bloody and violent scenes that seemed inappropriate so it could be aired. And in result came out the super gay and passive version where Batusai the slasher became baTOEsai the manslayer (gag) and others like Yoshi became yahiko and Kori “kauru”. So, sorry but if you like the MB version better your either a fucking homo who could handle the sony version or you just have no good taste what so ever in anime ;)

Their real names are Kaoru and Yahiko though xD
And in the Japanese there is emphasis but on the TOE is battousai because its a double TT sound… and Hitokiri Battousai as Battousai the manslayer is a pretty good translation xP
I do agree that the “Kenchi” was kind of annoying though =P
But overall I didn’t have much issues with that dub.
But then again… it has to do more with preferences and people tend to be attached to what they saw first.
I’m just laughing that people are getting so flustered in this post xD
