Sony PS3’s New Motion Controller
So have you heard of the PS3’s Motion Controller yeah? It’s that Baton looking device that would look perfect if you were playing Buzz or some other trivia game.
Ta-dah! Yeah. The is the Playstation’s answer to Motion Control, much like how the Wii has the Wiimote and how the Xbox360 is going to have Project Natal. This Motion Controller was first revealed at E3 this year and at TGS this morning, more information was revealed.
From Joystiq,
Software Titles for Motion Controller from SCE Worldwide Studios
Ape Escape (Working Title)
Echochrome 2 (Working Title)
Eccentric Slider (Working Title)
Sing and Draw (Working Title)
Champions of Time (Working Title)
Motion Party (Working Title)
The Shoot (Working Title)
Tower (Working Title)
PAIN*
Flower*
Hustle Kings*
High Velocity Bowling*
EyePet** Motion control function will be added by network update, etc.
It was also mentioned in a Kotaku article that games such as Resident Evil 5 and LittleBigPlanet are going to receive the Motion Controller treatment as well.
From Kotaku,
Well, we now know what that “Resident Evil 5: Director’s Cut” stuff was all about. It’s a re-release of RE5, built to take advantage of Sony’s upcoming motion controller.
The game will be out in Spring 2010, and it’s far from the only existing PS3 title to take advantage of the new peripheral. During SCEJ’s TGS press conference, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida revealed that the controller will also work with existing games like LittleBigPlanet, EyePet, Flower, Pain, High Velocity Bowling “and more”.
Wow. LBP is Motion Controller goodness. Yeahh!!! I’m excited by the news, yet I’m somewhat skeptical. What if Sony messes this up? What if one of my favourite games on the PS3(LBP) gets changed so much that it becomes a crappy game. I don’t know. I’m still in shock from the news I guess. I do know one things for certain though. The PS3 will definitley be milking more and more money out of me.
First I’d have to get one of those PSEyes(those webcam-thingys), then the Motion Controller (probably 2) and perhaps, in the near future, that 3D glasses thingamagic for 3D gaming. Seems like a lot of stuff to buy. I better start saving up.
The motion controller is scheduled to be launched Spring 2010. Oh, to end of the post, here’s a video of how the Motion Controller roughly works.

Ice cream cone!! XD
I feel its a nice addition and it gives PS3 owners a choice to use either the original controller or this new motion controller. However, I still cannot imagine myself choosing it over the original controller… Hmm, maybe future games for the PS3 will change my mind, because some game developers will probably be making their games with the new motion controller in mind. We will just have to wait and see ^_^

Oh Sony… Will will you learn that it was never the motion control on the Wii that made it popular…
It was the fact it was affordable xD
Even if I did get a PS3 I would not use this controller~ That was what I hated most about the wii~ I tried to get around that controller in every way I could.

@bluesnow
the Wii is affordable? Cause as far as I remember it had the features of a previous-gen console at the price of about $400-500SGD.
Maybe it’s just Singapore. Nothing here is ever cheap.

@ M:
The Wii here in the states is only $250 USD, so compared to the former $399 for the PS3… yeah it’s affordable.
@bluesnow:
There’s a reason why the Wii lets you use the Gamecube controllers lol. I completely understand avoiding the Wii-mote though…. it’s a good idea, but price made the Wii the console of choice.
Oh Sony…. i may be a Playstation Whore, but i’m not stupid enough to fall for this.

A price cut to pave the way for a new unit that hits shelves in two years? I think the price cut is more in line with trying to maintain its competitive price point in line with the cuts Sony and Microsoft made.
