Persona 3 Portable TGS ‘09 Trailer

The next trailer I have picked from TGS ‘09 is for Persona 3 Portable! This is the second Persona game to be ported to the PSP, the first being Persona Portable (released on September 22). Persona 3 Portable is a remake of the original PS2 game from 2007.

Persona 3 Portable

When I first heard that Persona 3 will be getting a PSP port, I really hoped that the gameplay will be similar to Persona 4’s. And you know what? This trailer has just made my day! The gameplay footage in this trailer looks a lot like Persona 4! Like the battle sequence and the menu art style.

There are some differences and changes in this remake. For example, the most noticeable change is that you have the option of choosing between two characters to start with. You can either start with a male character, or a female character. Choosing any one of the characters will affect some of the in-game events, like the Persona that you start with, and some of the Social Linking stories. That is not all, Atlus went as far as to set some unique background music for each of the 2 characters.

Atlus have also revised the battle system from the original Persona 3 game, borrowing heavily from Persona 4. You will be able to fully control each character during battle, like whether or not you want to go for a normal attack, or an elemental attack. The “Guard” option from Persona 4 is also brought into the game, allowing the respective characters to take in less damage. I can see that this battle system will really help players to plan out their attacks when they are facing a strong enemy.

So far, there is no news that Atlus will be making an English version of the game. However, I will say that chances of that happening is pretty high because Atlus love to localize their games, so fear not Persona fans! Persona 3 Portable will be released in Japan on November 1, 2009.

Ever since I heard that you could choose the gender of the protoganist I´ve been sold on this, now I just await a releasedate.

The one thing that sets me of though is that it is for PSP. Would have been so much worth if it had been on PS2.

Hmmm the gameplay pretty much works the same way as all the other Persona games. However, it is just a port of the old PS1 game, so the graphics aren’t good. I think I may be skipping the first game, and wait for Persona 3 Portable instead, since it is very similar to Persona 4’s gameplay, and its Persona 4 that got me interested in the franchise.

Yes, it is generally a port of the PS1 game. They have changed and added a few things, like better animated cutscenes, revamped battle system, add new features like quick save and such. But the visual elements and story remain the same.

I like the idea of being able to choose the gender as well =). To me, it increases the replay value of the game and what’s more, you can experience a slightly different story with each of the characters =). I wish Atlus will localize it asap!
