Three Words: Best Fall Anime!
I have been looking for a good new romance comedy series; there hasn’t been any worth mentioning since Itazura na Kiss during fall LAST YEAR! This is definitly a great series to watch if you’re looking for something in that genre. The basic premise of the show is a bit odd; The main character Sawako, looks just like super scary Sadako from The Ring. Because of this her class mates think she is some sort of supernatural exsistence and call her Sadako; they are scared to death of her. Sawako is infact a very cute shy girl, but not very good at socializing. She is a little depressed that every one is too scared to talk to her, but she becomes very happy when a boy in the class named Kazehaya says good morning to her, and stands up for her. Sawako wishes she could be someone as refreshing as him. (Ironically her name is written as “refreshing child,” though she is anything but)

Mr. Refreshing Kazehaya

In the second half of the episode she decides to sign up for the courage competition. She over hears some girls talking about how “Sadako” should play the ghost and scare all the students, and she goes out of her way to volunteer for the position. She thinks it will make her class mates happy if she can be their entertainment. So during the courage competition she is standing in hiding in the forest in the middle of the night scaring the crap out of all the students. Kazehaya shows up and sticks with her for the rest of the night… it appears as though he has a crush on her, though Sawako is too oblivious to tell, she is just happy to have SOMEONE that talks to her.

She makes alot of weird faces xD

At the end of the episode, the classmates tease Kazehaya for not completing the contest and for sticking with scary “Sadako” all night; as punishment they tell him to go out on a date with her for a week. Kazehaya gets angry and says a date with a girl should never be considered “punishment.” Sawako is busy blaming herself… thinking it is her fault that class idol Kazehaya is getting his reputation tarnished. She tries to clear up the misunderstanding by telling them that nothing happened, that Kazehaya is the most awesome guy in the world that is nice to everyone, but nothing happened.

The next day is summer vacation, but Sawako goes to school to help the teacher with some summer school duties. On the way she starts crying; she thinks Kazehaya will never talk to her again. He is actually sitting outside of the school waiting for her, and tells her he wants to spend more time with her. It wasn’t exactly a love confession, but he states in his head he has been infatuated with her from the first day of school.

Overall it felt like the perfect combination of comedy and romance. I really like the animation style; the backgrounds have a very nice watercolor type feeling. The animations for the characters is a little bit plain, but they are clean, and I LOVE all of Sawako’s random faces. Her weird reactions reminds me of Sunako from Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (Who is also ironically based on Sadako’s character from the Ring I think.) I’m feeling alot of potential from this series, so it is currently the ONLY series I’m watching this season.

On one last note, I also really liked the opening and ending, I’ll post a link to them when they become available. (I made this review very shortly after it came out.)
Here are a few more images:

A weird aura of happiness o.o

knt10
Awaiting in the bushes to scare the crap out of her prey classmates

knt1
She REALLY enjoys scaring them xD

knt12

knt2
Happiness that one of the class girls bought her a drink (She is a bit over dramatic)

knt13
Awkward Silence with Cute boy

knt14
Her class mates think if they she looks at you for more than 3 seconds you will die… she doesn’t understand that Kazuhaya was actually embarrased by her cuteness.

If you’re still looking for more series to watch I suggest you look at our fall anime line up ^.^

It was my favorite series this season until I saw Darker than Black 2. Different genre I guess, but both are excellent.

Seeing you blog about this and claiming it to be the best fall show ever, I just had to catch this. My thoughts? Not bad. Lol. The seiyuu is Kotomi from CLANNAD, so I was hearing her voice throughout the show XD. Hilarious!

I don’t know if Kimi Ni Todoke is the best show of the fall season, but it does seem to have potential.

Interesting part for Mamiko Noto, since I mainly think of her as Hell Girl.
