Modern Warfare 2 – PC System Requirement
The release of Modern Warfare 2 for all platforms are just around the corner (November 10, 2009), and Infinity Ward wants to make sure that PC gamers will be ready for it when it is finally out. They have released the minimum system requirement specs and here it is.
Minimum System Requirement
- OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 (Windows 95/98/ME/2000 are unsupported)
- Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor or better supported
- Memory: 1 GB RAM
- Graphics: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT or better or ATI Radeon 1600XT or better
- DirectX: Microsoft DirectX(R) 9.0c
- Hard Drive: 12GB of free hard drive space
- Sound: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
- Internet: Broadband connection required for Multiplayer Connectivity. Internet Connection required for activation
It is nice to know the system requirements of Modern Warfare 2, but most PC gamers’ main concern is still Infinity Ward’s decision in implementing IWNet to the game which takes away the ability to host player-run dedicated servers (e.g Fragnetics or GameServers).
Additionally, with IWNet, there will no longer be 32-player matches. Instead, matches will be carried out in a maximum of 8 players or possibly 16 players. There are many bad points for IWNet which are brought up on forums, but those are the ones that concerned me the most.
If you have the time, you can look at this 2-part video about the good and bad points of IWNet. It is quite informative, and the guy brought up some interesting points. Go have a look:

@Reltair
Definitely get it for your PS3 looking at how things are going for the PC version. Since the PC version can’t have its usual 32-player matches and player-run dedicated servers, it is no different from the console version. What’s more, you get to play it with a smooth frame rate on the PS3 =). Great now I really wish I have a PS3 -.-.

Wow IWNet taking over dedicated servers? Downgrading from 32 to 16 or even 8 players for multiplayer? Wow. Especially if mods and custom stuff are not allowed, then just as the Youtuber there saids it: “Goodspeed. Good luck to Infinity Ward you’ve just (possibly) killed your PC audience”.
I understand that piracy is always an issue, and that they’re trying to reduce this, but then the anti-piracy stuff are sometimes the ones that are killing the games or simply be notorious to the gamers. No mods or custom stuff? Why can Battle.net handle it nicely while IWnet can’t? I think L4D is staying alive and well mainly because of the mods and custom campaigns/maps. Heck I’ve seen a friend of mine playing on some and they’re much better than the latest official Aircrash campaign or whatever it’s called.
I am not so much of a gamer anymore as I’m still stuck on BF1942 mod right now (specifically Battlegroup42), but seeing the future of games going like so saddens me tbh.
