Downloading of anime is illegal, but it looks like the time has come for the uploaders in Japan. According to NHK, Japanese Police conducted a wholesale arrest of interest users who uploaded illegal files through a software called “Share”.

Nationwide Roundup of Illegal Uploaders In Japan

Ten people ranging from 23 to 57 years old were arrested and one is under investigation. There is no interaction among them and the police charged the eleven individually. This is the first time Japanese Police made a nationwide act against the illegal file sharing.

List of the anime-related suspects:
57 year old jobless man, arrested for sharing “Hikaru no Go”
37 year old prefectural employee, arrested for sharing “Mobile Suit Gundam 00″
30 year old arcade clerk, arrested for unknown TV anime
23 year old postal clerk, arrested for sharing “Lucky ☆ Star”
23 year old jobless man, arrested for sharing “Ranma ½” and Dragon Quest 9

While the actions by the Japanese Police might reduce uploading to a certain extent, I still believe that anime will still be uploaded onto the net no matter what >_>. What is your take on the actions of the Japanese Police?

Was planning to write about this event myself, but you beat me to it =)

I agree, a handful of people being arrested can’t affect the thousands who upload all over Japan. Because of all the anonymity on the Internet, and the fact that uploading can be a really inconspicuous crime, it’s going to be hard to catch.

I do not think it will ever end. Just like Yumeka said to many people to stop and people could always just go into private browsing that leave no data behind on what sites or thing they did on the internet.

enjoy internet freedom in most parts of the world while we can. the time for internet laws is drawing near. and it’s either going to be net neutrality and a free internet or a locked down www that mirrors TV with commercials and content restrictions/filtering/spying/regulation
