Phone Recycling With Hatsune Miku
Hate to recycle? It’s possible with Hatsune Miku as the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of the Japanese government has posted a music video, featuring illustrations and a song of the virtual idol Hatsune Miku, for a government mobile phone recycling campaign on Thursday. Miku is well-known among many, and using he to promote the recycling campaign is a smart move!
As quoted from Japanator:
METI is seriously committed to encouraging cell phone recycling. People who recycle their old phone upon buying a new one are eligible for a cash prize; I imagine that the grand prize of 50,000 yen would be enough to get some otherwise apathetic folks interested in recycling. Apparently the phone does have to be worth more than 2,500 yen to qualify for the program, but to tell you the truth, I question how many cell phones even exist in Japan that cost less than that. Anyway, participants can receive a handy 1,000 yen for just recycling an old phone.
So what are the old phones they get for? Over here, old phones are traded in when you upgrade your phone plan. In turn we get a certain amount off the retail price of the phone.
Here’s the music video:
Now I can’t get the song out of my head ^~^
