Japan’s Softbank(mobile phone service provider) has announced that it will release a limited edition phone to mark the 30th anniversary of the first plastic model kit from Sunrise’s Gundam franchise. The phone will bundled together with a 1/100 scale plastic model kit of the first Gundam mobile suit robot. Phone will only be available with the kit. Also, it will be the first Gundam plastic model with an internal metal frame.

The SoftBank 945SH G Ver.GP30th phone is capable of recording HD video(1280×720! OMG!). It has a screen size of 854×480 pixels.

The model’s custom catapult display base will double as the phone’s charger.

Users can customize the phone with a battery cover modeled after the Gundam’s shield and exclusive decals. SoftBank will pre-install original Gundam content on the phone, such as images for the standby/menu screens and ringtones.

Reservations have started as of Wednesday at physicals stores and online websites. The phone will begin shipping this September. Wow I will give anything to have this phone, but then again I handle my stuff too carelessly =/.

Just looked up the price. If it doesn’t cost 70+k Yen then it would be worth considering… On the other hand, hacking a Japanese phone will require some help from outsiders afaik ._.
