Square Enix’s latest Final Fantasy game is getting a sequel with Lightning making her return.

The game will retain the same key staff behind last year’s game, with Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama returning, and it will also see the return of key character Lightning.

Not much info has been released about the game. Other than Lightning there are no news about other characters reappearing in this sequel, but there will be at least one new character who will be joining your posse. Furthermore, they will be making some changes to the battle system. Square Enix is marking this game down in their “2011 Releases” list. The US PlayStation Blog posted that it will be available next winter so whether or not you want to believe in simultaneous release is up to you =P.

The story of FFXIII seemed pretty “final” to me, so it is interesting to see what will happen in this sequel. As much as I am happy that this is coming out so soon, I am pretty skeptical about the quality. I wouldn’t mind waiting another year if that is what it takes to score a 9/10 and above in my book.
