This is a new installment in the Resident Evil franchise, featuring team-based gameplay. It will be developed by Slant Six Games, the ones behind SOCOM: Confrontation.

The game takes place in 1998 during the events in Resident Evil 2 & 3. You will be playing as a member of the Umbrella Security Services, meaning that you are probably playing as one of the bad guys. Pretty interesting change I guess. The other faction that you are fighting against is the US Spec Ops.

Combat won’t simply consist of headshot after headshot — you can do things to mix it up like luring zombies into attacking other enemy soldiers. You’ll also earn experience points that can be cashed in for new abilities and weapons.

Operation Raccoon City features 4-player cooperative gameplay and competitive multiplayer. Oh yeah, please note that this is not the next big Resident Evil game. A Resident Evil 6 by Capcom is still in the works and “will be out as soon as possible”.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be out on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC around Winter 2011.
