Recent speculations that the upcoming Dragon Quest X will require a subscription fee. That has been confirmed by Square Enix via the Q&A page.

DQX will require an online connection to get beyond the first few hours of play. The latest question at the Q&A asks if the game will have separate charges outside of the initial purchase price. The answer: the game is planned to require separate payments in order to play online.

No further confirmation on how the online gameplay will work.

Dragon Quest X is due for release on the platform Wii and Wii U.
