That’s right. It is the upcoming joint development by the Atlus Persona team and BlazBlue team to create Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena.

Atlus Announces Persona 4 Vita, Fighting Game And Teases 5 http://zotaku.com/2011/08/31/atlus-announces-persona-4-vita-fighting-game-and-teases-5/ http://zotaku.com/2011/08/31/atlus-announces-persona-4-vita-fighting-game-and-teases-5/#comments Wed, 31 Aug 2011 04:41:48 +0000 zenical http://zotaku.com/?p=16267 Well we weren’t wrong in guessing that the yellow teaser site was Persona-related. What was announced was obvious and.. expected? We have a remake of Persona 4 The Golden on the PlayStation Vita, set for Spring 2012.

This remake adds a number of new features:

  • A new character named Mary
  • 1.5 times the voice of the PS2 version
  • Wireless support for calling on others to help you when you’re about to die in a dungeon.
  • Other elements that fans of the original have heavily requested
  • New opening anime with new song from Shouji Meguro
  • New animation movies

A bit more surprising is Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena. Atlus is teaming up with Arc System Works for a 2D fighter that will be released first for arcades in Spring 2012, then for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Summer 2012.

BlazBlue fighting series is developed by Arc System Works, but it has been reported that the Persona team is heavily involved in the Persona fighting game, stating that they want to be a joint development.

The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena has a new story that takes place two months after the events of Persona 4. Characters from Persona 4 and Persona 3 will feature in the game.

Let’s not forget about Persona 5, as basic preparations for the game’s development have been completed, with the usual staff members in place. That includes Katsura Hashino as director, Shigenori Soejima as character designer, and Shouji Meguro as main composer.

Atlus Porting Persona 2: Innocent Sin To PSP http://zotaku.com/2010/10/31/atlus-porting-persona-2-innocent-sin-to-psp/ http://zotaku.com/2010/10/31/atlus-porting-persona-2-innocent-sin-to-psp/#comments Sun, 31 Oct 2010 07:23:35 +0000 guuzen http://zotaku.com/?p=11218 Atlus is still going strong with the PSP remakes of their Persona games. So far, they have ported Persona 1 and Persona 3 and now they are doing it for Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

There will not be any dramatic changes to the game since it is just a port. Instead, they will redo the graphics and tweak the battle interface to make sure it plays well on the PSP. They have also put in a new opening movie produced by anime studio Satellite. Atlus wanted to include Persona 2: Eternal Punishment into the remake as well, but with the UMD’s current capacity it is impossible to do so.

If you enjoyed playing P3 or P4, it is important to note that the style of gameplay is totally different. It is more similar to P1’s which some of you may not like. Furthermore, the original game was released on the PlayStation 1, so be sure not to expect too much visually. Below is a sample of the gameplay.

Shin Megami Tensei fans may want to consider getting this for a nostalgia bomb. Currently, this remake is only set to be released in Japan and there are no news whether Atlus USA will be localizing this. If they are then you are in for a little treat since Innocent Sin was never officially translated to English before.

Catherine Opening Movie http://zotaku.com/2010/10/22/catherine-opening-movie/ http://zotaku.com/2010/10/22/catherine-opening-movie/#comments Thu, 21 Oct 2010 17:22:36 +0000 guuzen http://zotaku.com/?p=11056 Here is the opening movie for Atlus’s latest game, Catherine; created by the same team that made the Persona games.

Yup this is definitely something that came out of the Persona team and the hip hop song says it all. There are no stylish vector animation in this one but it is still stylish in its own way. For those of you who are interested in the game, be aware that this is an adult themed game, so as much as I am curious about the relation between Catherine and Katherine and also the mystery behind those creepy walking lambs, I don’t think my parents will approve of it.

Catherine will be released during Winter 2010 in Japan. There are still no news about the international release.

Still No News On Persona 5. Catherine Anyone? http://zotaku.com/2010/09/24/still-no-news-on-persona-5-catherine-anyone/ http://zotaku.com/2010/09/24/still-no-news-on-persona-5-catherine-anyone/#comments Thu, 23 Sep 2010 19:36:18 +0000 guuzen http://zotaku.com/?p=10496 So the Tokyo Game Show 2010 has been over for a few days now, and what have I finally noticed…?

There were totally no news about Persona 5! I know it is impossible to get much news about it since it was only around March we got words that Atlus is starting work on it. But I was really hoping for some words on the development progress. So whether or not they decided to go portable and release it on the PSP, who knows.

What they have been putting more time into however is a new game called Catherine. It is quite possible that they are using this game to test out their engine for the current-gen consoles. Well if that’s the case then at least Persona 5’s development will be more “stable” I guess.

Here is the 2nd trailer for Catherine, as shown during TGS ‘10. If Atlus is really using this game as a test, then there is a possibility that Persona 5 may be cel-shaded. But then again, the Persona games as I recall never used cel-shading so it will be a weird change to me.

So… Catherine… What a weird looking game huh? It looks like some sort of psychological drama with freaky monsters in a gritty Alice in Wonderland-like environment. The crazy world is suppose to only exist in his dreams but from this second trailer, it seems the dream world is crossing over to the real world.

To be honest, I am having mixed feelings about Catherine. At first I was really into it because it feels like a murder mystery. However as more and more supernatural stuff gets introduced, I am not liking the game as much anymore. The things that disturb me the most are those lambs and the fact that the main character is turning into one of them. I think watching the movie Black Sheep played a big role in me being turned off.

For those of you who are still excited about it, Catherine is set to be released around Winter 2010 in Japan for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. No news about English release dates so far.
