Famitsu’s PlayStation Vita FAQ Details http://zotaku.com/2011/10/27/famitsus-playstation-vita-faq-details/ http://zotaku.com/2011/10/27/famitsus-playstation-vita-faq-details/#comments Wed, 26 Oct 2011 20:07:01 +0000 quartyz http://zotaku.com/?p=17855 Prospective buyers of the PlayStation Vita, you might want to check this out as more information have surfaced in the latest Famitsu’s PlayStation Vita FAQ.

The magazine posted responses to 50 questions buyers might have about PlayStation Vita. Below are some of the newer information that surfaced during this round of FAQ.

Required Peripherals

Famitsu says that a Memory Card is pretty much a requirement, as some games will require the card. Games that require a card can’t even be booted up if you don’t have one.

External Video Out
The system does not have external video out.

PS3 Connectivity
Memory Card data management and Trophy sharing. You can also view video and music via Remote Play. PS3’s Torne DVR device can also be used once you’ve updated its firmware.

PSP Software Compatibility
You can up the visual quality through bilinear filtering. This can be toggled on and off.

Use of PSP and PS3 Peripherals
The system cannot use PSP and PS3 peripherals

Internal Software
At shipment time, you can use the following built in apps or functions: Welcome Park (introduces you to the controls), Party (a chatting app that can be used in games), Photo & Camera, Music, Video, Near (a social app for interacting with other Vita systems in your area), Browser, Group Messaging, Friend, Trophy, PS Store, Remote Play, Content Management and Settings.

Parental Controls
For 3G, content will be filtered by default. If you want this feature turned off, you have to fill out some paperwork at the NTT DoCoMo shop.

GPS Without a 3G Contract
You can still use GPS, but 3G can acquire positional information faster.

Current 3G Usage
You can check your current 3G usage through an app called “Network Operator.”

Wi-Fi VS 3G
The system will first attempt to connect via Wi-Fi. If no Wi-Fi connection is found it will connect through 3G. While connected through 3G, even if the system finds a Wi-Fi hotspot, it will not automatically switch.

Vita Titles With Internal Memory Unable To Use External Storage http://zotaku.com/2011/10/26/vita-titles-with-internal-memory-unable-to-use-external-storage/ http://zotaku.com/2011/10/26/vita-titles-with-internal-memory-unable-to-use-external-storage/#comments Wed, 26 Oct 2011 13:10:37 +0000 quartyz http://zotaku.com/?p=17816 New hardware info has pop up online on Kotaku Japan for the PlaytStation Vita.

Kotaku Japan has learned that games with internal storage will never give gamers the ability to save to an external card.

It was reportedly confirmed by SCEI that for those titles that require external memory storage, they will not even launch without a memory card inserted into the Vita system.

Some Vita cartridges may use external storage for downloadable content in additional to saving of data on external storages.

Publishers will determine whether to use internal or external memory it seems.

PlayStation Vita 3G Downloads Limited To 20MB http://zotaku.com/2011/10/01/playstation-vita-3g-downloads-limited-to-20mb/ http://zotaku.com/2011/10/01/playstation-vita-3g-downloads-limited-to-20mb/#comments Sat, 01 Oct 2011 05:21:05 +0000 guuzen http://zotaku.com/?p=17087 Sony decided to go the Apple route of limiting 3G downloads to 20MB for the PlayStation Vita, so you’re probably gonna need a Wi-Fi connection for most (if not all) games available on the PlayStation Store.

This is making 3G on Vita sound more and more useless. So you can’t download stuff that are more than 20mb, you can’t play those 8 vs 8 multiplayer games. You can surf the web, do social networking stuff and play smaller games like UNO online, but these are things that can already be done on smart phones. I’m not saying that everybody has a smart phone, but there is no doubt a large number who do own one.

I am interested to get a Vita purely for the games, but currently I am not willing to sign up a 3G data plan just for it. I wonder if the quality of video streaming will be lowered as well when using 3G…

3DS or PS Vita? Go for the cheaper 3DS? Or the newly released portable console from Sony this(or next) year?

Do You Want This Sony PlayStation Tablet? http://zotaku.com/2011/09/01/do-you-want-this-sony-playstation-tablet/ http://zotaku.com/2011/09/01/do-you-want-this-sony-playstation-tablet/#comments Thu, 01 Sep 2011 14:51:20 +0000 zenical http://zotaku.com/?p=16316 Take a look at Sony’s first PlayStation tablet which will be out this month, costing $500 USD.

To go with its PlayStation Phone, Sony will soon be releasing a pair of wild and wacky PlayStation-certified tablet computers as well. Which, as of today, have most of their release info locked down.

The S1(on the left), also called Tablet S, will go on sale later this month for $500. The S2(on the right) called Tablet P, which looks like a DS, will go on sale in November. No word on its price yet.

Both tablets will be PlayStation-certified, meaning they can legally download PS1 games from Sony’s marketplace.

Seriously would you aim for this tablet or the iPad?

Finally! PS3 Gets Even Cheaper! http://zotaku.com/2011/08/18/finally-ps3-gets-even-cheaper/ http://zotaku.com/2011/08/18/finally-ps3-gets-even-cheaper/#comments Wed, 17 Aug 2011 19:00:09 +0000 zenical http://zotaku.com/?p=15947 This piece of news has been floating around the net yesterday. Sources have stated that Sony has officially slashed the price of the PlayStation 3 160GB, from $299 to $249. $50 price cut is a lot! You can get an additional game with the price cut!

The 320GB will be selling for $299.

160GB PS3 is also dropping in price in Europe and PAL territories to 249 Euros (349 Euros for the 320GB). In Japan, it will drop to 24,980 Yen. (29,980 Yen for the 32 GB version). The U.S. and European/PAL price drops are effective immediately. The price cut for Japan kicks in on August 18.

Will the price cut increase PS3 console sales?

PlayStation Vita Coming Soon, Release Date Announcement Probably At Tokyo Game Show http://zotaku.com/2011/08/05/playstation-vita-coming-soon-release-date-announcement-probably-at-tokyo-game-show/ http://zotaku.com/2011/08/05/playstation-vita-coming-soon-release-date-announcement-probably-at-tokyo-game-show/#comments Fri, 05 Aug 2011 10:15:25 +0000 zenical http://zotaku.com/?p=15693 Sony’s upcoming baby, the PlayStation Vita might be coming soon for Japan. For international release it will be next year.

Specifics on the Vita’s software and applications will be announced at German’s GamesCom in August and the Tokyo Game Show in September.

Retail price for the Wi-Fi model is at 24,980 yen and 29,980 yen  for the 3G model. During the interview session at Sony HQ in Tokyo, PlayStation Boss Kaz Hirai said that there was no need to reduce the system’s price in response to Nintendo’s recent 3DS price drop announcement.

Official release date announcement will probably be at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, held this year from September 15 through September 18 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

With the recent price drop of the 3DS, how many of you are heading for the 3DS? Or you’ll wait for the Vita?
