A poster advertisement for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) was made staring characters from Summer anime Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.

It will be used for the PR of the rescue activities of JGSDF. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is produced in cooperation with JGSDF 1st Division, Tokyo Fire Department, 3rd Regional Japan Coast Guard, Tokyo Disaster Medical Assistance Team.

So basically… Code Geass May have gotten Pizza Hut… but this series is so awesome it has the Army xD
(Which we all know are secretly building Gundams for world domination)

Ironically I haven’t seen any JGSDF’s in the series yet… Unless they were the rescue forces on boats that were crushed under a ginormous bridge while rescuing people. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is about a huge earthquake that hits Tokyo, the destruction, and how people react. The protagonists are a bratty normal middle school girl and her little brother. The little girl basically hates people… and was hoping the world would just “BREAK” right before the earthquake happens. Of course afterwords she regrets her wish, and panics trying to save her brother from a burning toppling mall. Her character is beginning to develop as she becomes more loving towards her brother and and more trusting in people. This is possibly one of the best original anime of the summer.

Nakamachi Kana

Kana is a 13-year old who forced herself to leave home after her grandma passed away – as she believed that the guys who came to take her grandmother’s possessions will take her away too. LOL. While looking for a place to stay, she ends up at an newspaper distribution office. She saw some YURI action in front of the office and walked away, thinking of looking at other places first. At the end, she decides to stay and start working as a newspaper carrier girl, since it seems like it’s the only place that’s willing to take her in – despite the fact that someone might “rape” her since a certain someone(HARUKA) is a pedo who wants loli girls.

Everyone calls her Chief.. when she’s still in grade school! Wow. She is the most serious character among the girls. All she does whole day is to supervise the girls, doing office administrative work XD.

She’s also a loli, so getting “played-around” by Haruka is a fact. Don’t underestimate her twintails. They’re used to defend her when Haruka starts to harass her! XD

Ah the Haruka I have been talking for the past 2 characters! Haruka is the oldest, but she isn’t the most mature one. She attends college, studying bio-fermentation, and creates numerous different beverages from biologic substances (the resulting concoction almost always being alcoholic), which she tests on her friends. She even offered a drink to Kana ^^”

It saddens me that my Hocchan is voicing her(such a crazy woman >_>), but I do go into fangirl mode whenever I see Haruka/hear Hocchan’s voice XD. I actually fangirl-ed while doing this section that I swallowed a seed (I’m eating fruits -_-)

She and Yuuki did some good yuri kissing in the first episode which left my jaws hanging LOL.

Mika Kujiin

Mika is a newspaper delivery girl at another center. She made her appearance in Episode 2! She was seeking shelter from the rain when she met Kana. Kana was doing her first delivery route! After the rain stopped, she realised she was lost and allowed Kana to “escort” her to her next delivery place (as a form of accepting Kana’s apology.. Lolwut?) That was WIN!

Don’t say that I am a pedo for watching this anime.. I do not want lolicons like Haruka XD. Actually I would like to fangirl/love the loli if my Hocchan is actually voicing one of them(Saki or Kana). But sadly she isn’t =(. The other anime she is currently voicing is a scary evil lolicon in Umineko no Naku Koro ni which Bluesnow described as “strangled cat” :(.

To conclude, Kanamemo is worth picking up with the comedy bits in it ^^.

I’m trying to think of the appropriate words to describe this chaotic series. If I had to compare it to another anime… I’d say its some mutant love child between Gurren Lagaan, Yugioh, Fist of the North Star, and Mega Man… But that doesn’t even begin to explain it. There’s some sort of plot about the “Black Spot” and people with super powers called “Needless” that some sort of organization is after… but basically what I saw were Explosions, Piles of Dead corpses, Girls who don’t know what bras are, Manly men with manly chests, Emo boy with a sister complex, and basic but mind shattering Shounen style butt kicking in a way that you can’t decide whether this series is awful or epic. I think it will take a few more episodes to decide.

First of all, I really loved the opening. Infact; so far its probably my favorite opening of the season. (The Guitar solo at the beggining sounds really familiar though.) “modern strange cowboy” by GRANRODEO

The Episode starts off with a group of a few hundred freedom fighters being burned to death by some typical bad guy groupies that look like they should be in a visual-ke Band instead imposing evil on the world.

Some scared little green haired boy named Cruz is running for his life cring. A big breasted girl, who apparently doesn’t own any shirt that lack gaping holes over her chest, appears and she seems to be his older sister. She tells him to escape in a man-hole as she attacks some gigantic machine all by herself. There is a huge explosion and the boy  cries more now that he thinks his sister is dead.

He runs and cries more in the sewers till that giant machine catches up with him. He prays to god to save him… Instead some manly Priest appears to do the job. The Run some more till the priest pulls a grenade out of his Bible and shoves it into the machine’s face. He was hurt pretty badly, but the boy drags him to some church to get medical assistance.

Cruz starts crying again as he stares at a picture of his half naked older sister in a locket he has. Out of no where some crazy chick on a motorcycle appears that is either blind or a complete idiot.  She also clearly owns no bra… a step up from Crybaby’s sister’s Lack of Shirt… But she seems to bounce around alot more.

She tries to embrace the manly priest  (whose name is Adam Blade… I can’t forgot to include the main character’s name), but she is swiftly rejected with a kick in the face. She then realizes that a small boy has been ran over by a motorcycle and tries to bring him to. When Cruz opens his eyes he believes its his sister’s giant cleavage overshadowing him, but its only Eve.

Cruz tries to explain what happened… Only to be knocked senseless. Eve is apparently totally tactless in addition to her poor personality. She basically blames Cruz saying that it was their fault they died because they were the ones to attack, and that it was Cruz’s fault because he ran away while his friends were massacred (actually she’s 100% right lol xD). Eve also seems to have no ability remembering people’s names… She calls Cruz, “Yamada,” throughout this entire episode.  After Eve’s tactless onslaught of punches and humiliation Cruz runs away and cries some more.

Back at the Visual-ke Baddy Tower, A spiderman impostor is sent on a mission to destroy Mr. Manly Priest and Cruz. Mr. Spiderman is apparently an evil needless who has the job of exterminating other needless. He first finds the boy and beats the pulp out of him making him cry more. Finally Adam and Eve appear. (Omg… I didn’t realize the name pun till now.)

Adam and Eve aren’t your typical heroes though… Even calls Cruz a faggot and Adam says he’ll only save the boy if he worships him as a god for the rest of his life. The battle begins with Adam being captures in the Spiderman’s web. He easily breaks through with the power of he Ego more or less.

Eve joins in the battle as well. She apparently has the power of a “Doppelganger” which allows her to transform into almost anything. She Transforms into Cruz and Attacks. In the end she allows Adam to have the final attack. His Special Ability allows him to copy any other Needless’s Ability. (In other words he’s Megaman). Adam attacks with an onslaught of webs finishing off the Spider.

At the battle’s end Cruz really does bow down to Adam as god xD
Eve is informed that she was being a total jerk earlier because the boy’s big sister had just died. Eve Transforms into Cruz’s sister and tries to comfort him in her breasts…. She makes the mistake of calling him Yamada again though and Cruz runs off into the sunset crying more.

The ending…. words can’t even describe… Basically a Loli Threesome.

Impressions:

I generally avoid these types of anime like the plague, but it might be a nice change of pace^.^

So anyway, I’m not going to write a whole long review and all because there are tons of other bloggers already doing that. What I’m going to do, is to introduce the characters, the show and perhaps gather a few more followers for this show.

Why am I doing this post? Because I watched Episode 1, loved it and realised that since bluesnow hates anything remotely ecchi and zenical seems to be busy and will probably skip this in favor of everything Hocchan, I figured I was the only one left to fight for this series.

The OP is Princess Primp sung by Miyuki Hashimoto. The song is kinda catchy, considering how I’ve listened to it over serveral times during the duration of writing this post.
A fun fact I discovered about Miyuki Hashimoto, is that she tends to sing for Animes that have the harem theme. Below are a few of the songs she had sung before.

The main characters in the show mainly consists of Teppei and his 4 main Heroines, 3 of which have already been introduced in this episode.

Teppei.
The leading man in this harem. Voiced by Takuma Terashima of Chrome Shelled Regios fame.
Despite eventually being the guy who will be swamped by girls, I actually felt his pain in the scene before the OP in the 1st episode, the part about seeing his parents the last time. The fact that his parents’ death happened so fast was just shocking. One moment they were waving at him and going: “Ittarashai” and the next moment they’re gone.

Charlotte Hazellink.
The Princess of this story. Voiced by Ryoka Yuzuki of Utawarerumono fame.
Well everyone knows she’s going to be the one having the happy ending, unless of course the director decides to steer it in another direction to throw everyone off. By the way, she does look familiar.

Haha. Yes. She looks exactly like the awakened version of Akashiya Moka. Moka was voiced by Nana Mizuki, but carrying on…

Sylvia Van Hossen
The Saber lookalike. Voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi of Bamboo Blade fame.
Well, other than the fact that she looks like Saber, she is the first announced fiancee of Teppei. She’s good with swords, and she has a really cute sister.

Seeing how as her name was not given out this episode, let’s leave it as Meido-san for now. Voiced by Yuki Matsuoka of Bleach fame.
Umm. There’s nothing much to say about her. She’s a maid. Well, until there’s more character development for her or more of her scenes, I really can’t comment much.

Ok. That is the last of the 1st 3 heroines introduced. There are other cool characters in the show.

Isshin is Teppei’s grandfather.
Voiced by Norio Wakamoto.
Norio Wakamoto is a great male seiyuu. His most recent notable roles would include Oda Nobunaga in Sengoku Basara and the Narrator in Hayate no Gotoku!

Once again, another great male seiyuu. He voices Jade Curtis in Tales of the Abyss

Sylvia’s sister, Maria
Voiced by Kaya Miyake.
Maria is just KAWAII!!!! Haha. Yeah. Well, I like her character. Am I considered a lolicon now? Haha. I hope not.

Well. Those are the notable characters.

Story wise. It’s pretty clear cut. It’s a harem show. There will be probably be ecchi scenes every once in a while throughout the course of the series. There’ll be the usual misunderstandings between Teppei and one of the girls. There’ll be the usual misunderstanding scenarios.

The 1st episode itself barely had any ecchi scenes at all unless you consider a censored pantsu-scene and a slight touching of Charlotte’s oppai very ecchi.

Well. That more or less concludes this post. Princess Lover is a great show despite it’s supposed ecchi content and harem. Well, maybe it’s because I’m a guy, so it doesn’t affect me that much. Oh well, now to wait for the next episode.

Canaan is based of a video game named 428: Fūsasareta Shibuya de, and Is created by type-moon who made the popular series Fate/Stay Night, and ongoing movie series Kara no Kyoukai.  After only the opening I was very impressed by the animation. The first episode throws your right in the middle of a chaotic battle between unknown forces in the middle of Shanhai during a huge festival. It is very fast paced and introduces alot of characters and special matrix like powers so fast I’m not 100% sure if I caught everything even.

Rating: 9/10

Summary:

The opening was Mind as Judgment by Faylan. The song is good, but I was more impressed by the animation.

The episode begins with a young woman with blond/white hair sniping ballons floating in the sky from the festivities in the city. We will later learn that this woman is canaan and the protagonist of the series. Another young woman with dark black hair (whose name I did not catch) seems to have been captured and is being transferred from a boat by the military.  She appears to be a member, or perhaps even the leader of the organization Canaan is part of.

On an air plane a male reporter is traveling to the city with a optimistic looking photographer by the name of Maria. She apparently has a passion for photography and wants to catch all the things that people don’t see in the world on film. During this conversation scenes of the festivities are shown and a group of men wearing animal head gear are passing through. One of these men looses their hat and begins to loose their mind throwing themself into a river while all the onlookers just think its part of the festival.

In a hotel room two business men of some sort talking about “Synesthesia” (Try saying that 5 times fast). Synesthia is a special ability where a human can use all their senses at the same time at super levels. In the room next to these two men is a woman naked and talking about “purifying her body before meeting her sister.” She blabbers on more about pulsations in her abdomen and the red inside of her burning when she thinks of her sister… o____o at this point she comes out into the room where the men are speaking totally naked and tells him its time to do something.

At this point it has become night and Maria is taking pictures of  the festivities. One of the men with animal head costumes looses his mask his eyes go crazy. At this point its probably safe to assume that these people had Synesthesia of some sort. He writhes in pain throwing up blood till he dies. Maria ends where he is and takes a picture of him. Some men come out of the crowd shooting at her, but Canaan appears and runs with her to saftey (picking up a stuffed cat doll on the wayxD.) Apparently Canaan and Maria are good friend though we don’t get any back story yet. Cannan ties Maria up in some sort of Yuri Bondage a red ribbon that apparently symbolizes their friendship and begs that she doesn’t follow.

Canaan runs back into the city and starts firing away at her pursuers with use of some amazing eye abilities.  I was very impressed at the fighting choreography even though it was shorter that I would have hoped. The episode ends with the captured woman that appeared in the beginning. She is being transported in car by some soldiers. She happily hums to herself as the cars start to be blown up by an unknown enemy.

The ending theme was “My Heaven” by Annabel. It was mellow, but also did not stand out that much.

Impressions:

I definitely look forward to the next episode though.
It kinda reminds me of a mix between Kara no Kyoukai and Black Lagoon. Canaan’s super eyes remind me alot of Shiki’s “Mystic Eyes of Death Perception” from Kara no Kyoukai though I doubt there will be a direct relation.

The first new series I’ve watched so far this summer; Being a fan of Higurashi no Naku koro ni I just couldn’t pass this over. The first episode deals mostly with setting the plot and introducing us to an exhausting list of characters which hopefully will die soon enough that I don’t have to remember most of their names.

First of all, I was pretty imressed with the opening “One Winged Bird.” The song and the animation was decent (Though not nearly as memorable as the mesmorizing Higurashi opening <3~I really won’t try to compare these two series though!) I was informed by someone that the visual novel that this is based on as an interesting system where only text in red can be trusted. Tribute to this system is made apparent in both the opening and ending animation where characters are flashed in red.

The episode starts off with some old guy being told that he only has a few months left to live. He goes into some some sort of rage yelling the name “Beatrice.”  Shortly after many family members, whose names I have yet to remember, show up to his personally owned private island mansion … I believe the perverted protagonist below went by the name “Battler” though. He introduces his parents and cousins to the audience.

He’s trying to grope his cousin’s breasts… oh Japan… you and your incestxD

When I heard the plot description for this series the first thing I thought was “YES!!! No more Lolis!!!” But clearly I was wrong xD
(I have been informed that this Loli is named Maria and voiced by Zenical’s Hocchan xD)

This little girl kinda creeps me out.

As the family makes their way towards the mansion butlers and maids are introduced into the story as well. I only remember the pretty boy above is named Kanon because of the anime Kanon and the Caanon anime thats also being released this summer xD

 
Battler makes another attempt at womanizing

At this point the plot starts to develop. The adults go off together and start accusing each other of swindling money, failing businesses. Cat fighting and whore calling ensues. The adults of the party seemed more concerned about finding their father’s hidden treasure than a fun family get together.

The cousins explore the mansion and property. They come across this picture and begin to talk about this history of their family and the witch Beatrice. The earlier generations of their family had been rich, but in a great earth quake they lost all their assets over night. The current father of the family, then a young man ran into a witch by the name of Beatrice who gave him enough gold to make his own financial empire. Supposedly the gold is still hidden somewhere.

Back at the mansion garden the Loli searches for a rose they had marked earlier… but no one can seem to find it. The Loli is quite upset and starts to cry. The mother approaches and yells at her to stop making that aweful crying noise. She even slaps the girl wich makes her scream more. (The noise she makes reminds me of some sort of animal, not a child.)

The mother and cousins leave her be to find her rose by herself… in the middle of a thunder storm. At dinner time they realize she has gone missing and look back in the garden for her. They find her safe under an unbrella… she claims that “Beatrice” had given the umbrella to her.

 This is pretty much the end of the episode. The ending “la divina tragedia ~Makyoku~” was also very well done… maybe even better than the opening.

Hopefully the next episode is more suspenseful though xD

After spending a good 24 hours(or maybe lesser, we lost count) we also came up with our watchlist for Summer 2009 =D.

Bakemonogatari

One student, a girl named Hitagi Senjōgahara, almost literally falls into his lap, only to have him discover she has no weight.

Bluesnow – The plot doesn’t seem that enticing by itself, but the trailer made me realize that Shaft (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei) is responsible for this. Will have to take a look now.

To save the Earth, a special team “Element Hunter” is organized. All the members are under 14 years old because young and flexible brains are required to access to “Nega Earth”.

Bluesnow – About five seconds into the trailer I couldn’t help but think that this show is more or less Digimon with guns… and then I laughed when one of the youtube comments said about the exact same thing xD~ This is meant for younger children probably; will no be watching it.

Summary

The manga has been running in Heiwa Shuppan’s Comic Cute! magazine and later in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Carat since 2004, and two volumes have been compiled and published.

Bluesnow – Looks cute, I actually thought it was a sequal to “Sketchbook” that Zenical mentions below, though I never saw that. Will watch if other people say its good, but it isn’t really jumping out at me.
Zenical – This sorta reminds of Sketchbook ~full color’S~ somehow. The title “Art Design Class”, Slice of Life and Comedy genre really sounds like that. Then again.. Because there’s the fangirl in me who wants to check this anime out because my lovely Hocchan is voicing one of the main characters XD.

Hetalia Axis Powers – Season 2

Summary
Based on a popular web-released manga series by Hidekazu Himaruya, this has been described as a “cynical gag” story set in Europe in the years between WW1 and WW2 (1915-1939), using exaggerated caricatures of the different nationalities as portrayed by a gaggle of bishōnen. For example, the Italia Veneziano character is into pasta and women. The Deutsche (German) bishi loves potatoes and sausages, and Nippon is an otaku boy. Installments of the manga have jumped back and forth in setting from the ancient times to modern-day geopolitics. The manga’s title comes the Japanese words for “useless” (hetare) and Italy (Italia).

Bluesnow – PASTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA=D~ My favorite current ongoing series getting a second season! Of course I will watch it. Kind of a shame its still only available by streaming and phone so image quality is guaranteed to stay low and short unfortunately.
Zenical – Sadly I didn’t watch Season 1 at all, despite bluesnow ranting at me to watch it. I did watch a couple of videos but I guess I was just too lazy to go to streaming sites to watch them XD.

Bluesnow – Sounds like a pretty standard Shounen anime to me. Nothing particularly standing out too much, and the art work on the main page is scaring me away a bit, but if I hear good things about this I might watch it.
Zenical – Looking at the seiyuu list.. Hm. Gonna watch the first episode first ^_^.

Bluesnow – Probably the series I’m looking forward to most this summer =D Although I’ve heard alot of people say this series is boring I enjoyed the first season very much. The animation and music was nice, the plot was mellow, but intrigueing. I’m hope they get back to Horo’s home this season; I’m curious if anymore romance will spark between her and Lawrence.
Zenical - This anime is a must watch! Probably the one I am looking forward to too.. I just completed the first season like 1 month back, really love it. =D

Bluesnow – I only avoid three types of anime… anime aimed at children, anime aimed at perverts, and sports xD Because its an all girl team maybe it will be a typical of tradition sports series… but I probably won’t be watching it.
Zenical – Slice of life anime is what I am looking forward to. But sports+slice of anime might be a totally different thing. Then again I need some light anime series to lighten my week. Haha. Hopefully baseball isn’t as boring I thought it will be.

Bluesnow – Didn’t know about this anime till right now, but after watching the trailer it jumped very high on my definitly going to watch list! I was impressed by both the animation, and the suspense; hopefully this ends up being one of the gems of the season.
Zenical – My goosebumps stood after watching the trailer. Looks very epic and drama. Must watch! XD.

Summary
Umineko no Naku Koro ni takes place in 1986 during the time frame of October the 4th and the 5th on a secluded island named Rokkenjima (六軒島). The head of the wealthy Ushiromiya family, Kinzō Ushiromiya, who lives on and owns Rokkenjima, is near death, and eleven of his family members arrive on the island to discuss how Kinzō’s assets will be divided once he is dead. Also on the island are five of Kinzō’s servants, and his personal physician. After the eleven family members arrive, a typhoon traps them on the island and shortly after people start to get mysteriously murdered.

Bluesnow – Another installment by the same people as Higurashi sounds nice. The overall plot itself doesn’t sound very original, but then again Higurashi seemed dull until people started ripping out each other’s guts. The main character (which you can see by looking at the main site) looks like a mix between an very efeminate Pheonix Wright with his pointing finger trade mark and Gino from Code Geass. I will most definitely watch this… but if it doesn’t live up to my NICE BOAT expectations I will be very disappointed.
Zenical – HOCCHAN is voicing in this anime too =D. The voicecasting this time round is pretty strong, with Daisuke Ono, Marina Inoue and Rie Kugimiya. Wow. This is a definitely must watch, plus Hocchan in it, must^10.

Marin thinks Kanon is still in love with him and looks for the ring. But she accidentally breaks a seal on the sea floor…

Zenical – Hocchan voicing the main character?! Omg must watch XD. In addition this is a magic genre anime according to ANN. I always get attracted to magic anime series, somehow. Lol. This will be on my watchlist ^_^.

Bluesnow – Card Games and blinding pink hair aren’t really my cup of tea… The boy kinda reminds me a younger version of Shiro from Fate Stay/Night though.
Zenical – Fujima drew Nanoha manga too, so that explains why the male lead looks like Erio from Nanoha StrikerS lol. Uh it’s airing already right? Don’t think I will check this out.

Bluesnow – Never was a fan of Kyou, but since its Clannad I will most definitly watch this.  I just hope it doesn’t turn out as poorly as the Tomoyo Chapter; I couldn’t even finish that one.
Zenical – A chapter that concentrateson Kyou. Well will be watching this since I did finished watching CLANNAD. The Tomoyo Chapter(I’m not a Tomoyo fangirl!) was okay but I wonder what will they do for Kyou’s Chapter?

Bluesnow – I’ve been looking forward to this for about a year… even though the last ova came out 6 months ago, there was no Alucard so I was depressed. I look forward to more vampire Nazi death and gore so beautiful it brings tears of awe to my eyes.
Zenical -Looking at Hellsing just reminds me of someone I hate lol. I’m not a big fan of Hellsing. Didn’t even watch any of the OVAs released so far oops =X.

Higurashi no Naku Koroni Rei #4

At the start it would appear that this story will only be about fun and good moments for the “club” members, but after a brief fun during the first ova, the story turns out to be more deep and tense. Rika now feels strange and distant. And even feels that the same tragedies of the “past times” will occur, feeling that destiny is something that can’t be changed in the end. She thinks about getting involved and try to solve those mistakes or just giving up to that tragic destiny.

Zenical – I never completed Season 1.. But back then I was flooded with my backlogged anime series, maybe when I have the time I will catch the show. I remembered stopping halfway through Season 1.. Lol.

Bluesnow – I watched half of the first one and had gotten bored; perhaps it was because I had rewatched the series not long before that. It seemed to resemble the origenal too much regardless of the better quality, based on the trailer and the characters I see though they aren’t following the series exactly, so maybe I should give it another chance.
Zenical – Watched the first movie in the Cinema, loveeeee the soundtrack. Sound effects fanstatic too XD. 2nd movie will get Asuka involved too, so yeah, Asuka will probably overwrite Shinji being very emo. I can’t stand him being emo. I hope to catch this in the Cinema soon. ><

Bluesnow – I saw the first episode of the TV series. I think it was about a pink haired alien princess that ran away from home and ended up in some perverted kid’s bathtub naked… I could barely make it through the first episode. I’m not a fan of ecchi, but I’m sure some fanboys will be happy with it.
Zenical – I completed the anime series and watched OVA #1. Lol. This is like one of my first few ecchi series I ever completed. In the past I can’t stand ecchi series. To Love-Ru was different in a sense.. The ecchi wasn’t too much that I couldn’t take it XD. Of course there’s Golden Darkness inside who looks sorta like Fate.. so it is a must-watch =P

My list seems kind of short this season compared to say… last fall. This summer season seems kind of weak for anime I like. I’m looking forward to Spice and Wolf the most as of right now=D. Although both Hetalia and Hellsing are high on my list. Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, CANAAN, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, and Bakemonogatari look like the most intriguing NEW NEW anime series, but I’ve found that I’m frequently misled by pretty trailers~  Hopefully these series will make my summer vacation a lot more interesting =D
