PS3 80GB Discontinued in Japan
News have been floating around the net that PS3 80GB will soon be discontinued.
From Kotaku:
This notice is apparently from retailer 7-Eleven (7-Eleven sells video games in Japan) and stats that pre-orders for the Black, White and Silver 80GB PS3 will cease on Sunday, August 9 at 10am.
It was also stated that the reason is due to the “maker’s request”. The notice also states that all 80GB models in stores to be taken down. If this is true.. are we one step closer to the so-called PS3 SLIM?
I’m happy with my 40GB because I got it for half the RRP here. :)
With some much news about the PS3 SLIM, i’ts bound to be true.

Speaking of PS3, I still haven’t owned one yet…
With 80GB getting discontinued, is that bad news at all? Or are people happy with smaller capacity like Optic in the first place anyway?

I’m not exactly happy with the 40GB. I rather prefer the 80GB to be honest like the more, the merrier. I’m just happy with my 40GB because I got it for half the RRP approx. 650AUD.
I wasn’t willing to pay that much to begin with.

If they come out with the PS3 Slim…… i will hunt Sony down and shoot them. I just got my PS3 half a year ago so if they bring out the Slim (and if it has backwards compatibility) i shall not be a happy camper

i’d be glad if a slim had backward compatibility since i’ll be getting one in the future, but i doubt it. they previously stopped doing it because the parts had cost more to include.

@ Q: It’s not exactly a bad news. because a lot of ppl actually know how to switch the HDD in the ps3, hence customers would willingly buy a 40GB ps3 at a cheaper price compared to paying more for a 160GB,as they just pay a little more for a 320GB etc HDD for their ps3.
@ kurando: Is it a bad thing? PS3 slim might have problems and all(heating up faster etc), which is why you should be glad that you got the ps3 earlier before they “stop” production of the PS3 80GB.. ;)
@ atmchino: I doubt they will put that option back in since the current models don’t even have em =/
