Microsoft Experimenting With New Xbox 360 Box Art
It seems that after 5 years, Microsoft decided to redesign the Xbox 360 game box art’s logo banner (or “top strip” or whatever you want to call it).
Before (2005)
After (???)
I quite like the new design. I feel that it is nicer than the old design, but at the same time I do not see a need to because the new design is not that much different from the old one. A lot of websites are speculating that this is to celebrate the launch of Project Natal and that comes to no surprise.
It seems that there are still some tweaking to be done though. As you can see, the “Xbox Live” words are still not implemented in the new design. I can imagine the words being relocated to another part of the box because the new green abstract design on the right is already heavy enough to provide visual balance on the two sides, so the right side does not feel like it is missing something. But I think it is quite unlikely that the words’ position will change.
Kotaku has linked to 2 games on Amazon that are using the “beta” design. They are Kane & Lynch 2 and Mafia II. However, the banner resolution for these 2 games are clearly different from one another, which further implies that there are still changes to be made.
Since we are on the topic of redesigning box art, lets look back at the PlayStation 3’s box art changes!
Before (2006)
After (2009)
So what are your thoughts of the Xbox 360’s new box art design? Yay or nay?

pfft. the old PS3 sidebar logo was nicer. More stylish.
The new 360 boxart…. oh god. :( It kinda looks.. like crap. But that’s just me. Hopefully Halo:R ain’t sporting this new look.

I like the old sidebar for the PS3, but I like the new font. wish they could combine both >.<.

I don’t like how it transitions to the game box art. The before logo has that green bar that acts like a border and helps the transition. This new one has no border and I think it ruins the logo. Just a simple green line or a fade would work.
