The Gundam 00 Movie Review
*Note: This review will contain some spoilers to a light extent.*
Well so the Gundam 00 movie had a same day screening here in Singapore as in Japan. I watched it together with guuzen while zenical watched it at a later screening. So yeah, I’ll be giving a short summary of what happened.
Short Summary
Set 2 years after the end of season 2, the gundam 00 movie continues off, showing the events that occured after the takedown of A-Laws.While the world has achieved peace at certain level, a new enemy takes center stage. The meisters show off all their new gundams. Cameos from the side characters like “Immortal Patrick” and “Graham ‘Mr. Bushido’ Aker” appear throughout the film.
So basically, a new enemy has appeared in the form of the alien substance, the ELS. The ELS can assimilate anything it touches and basically yeah, the goal of the ELS is to gather everyone’s thoughts into a single collective.
Put it simply, everyone puts up a stellar fight and it ends with Setsuna saving the day. Hooray.
Impressions
Well, if you ask me. There are alot of bones I have to pick with the movie. For instance, the plot about extraterrasterial life. The Gundam series to me has always been about suits fighting suits. Season 1 had the Gundams fighting the Flags, the Tierens and the…. others. Season 2 had the Gundams fighting the Aheads. The movie? Some weird alien that can absorb you after it fires a barrage of fang like items.
And don’t get me started on the Independence Day-like scenes in the movie. I don’t know. Kinda cheasy for me. And the ending. To each his own but, I’m pretty sure much of the audience crowd echoed my thoughts when the end credits started rolling. Oh, if you are catching the movie, there is a final scene after the credits.
But, I shall not nitpick any further. I like Gundams and Gundam 00 was the first Gundam series I actually fully understood and followed through. There are nice characters, awesome voice actors, brilliant suits and a magnificant plot from start……… well the end crashed and burned for me….. but yeah. A 9/10 is still an ‘A’.
So if you ask me if you should watch the movie, I would say Yes. If you’ve followed through all 2 seasons, no reason to miss this.

Just finished my own short write-up and was finding some opinions about the movie through the net when came across your site.
I don’t understand why so many people are so disappointed by the ending. I thought it was really fitting. Oh well.

Hahahaha….. , i think alien is the “IN” thing. Yakuza Of the End the PS3 game suddenly become high of the dead or resident evil version. after a few thought, i think they are starting the alien trends.

Erm…I thought it is mentioned that Aeolia started his plan is to unified Earth and prepare for upcoming dialogue with alien. So I am surprised when people thought that having alien as antagonist is WTF. So the movie itself is just an earlier dialogue/ contact with alien and Tieria/ Setsuna mentioned that the Earth now is too early for dialogue/contact.
Btw, I think all the small fangs, big octopus thingy or etc are the ELS aka alien. I think ELS turn hostile when Earth shot down their scouting ship twice. I think ELS is trying to communicate rather than uniting Earth as a single collective. Since ELS seems to think that people with quantum brain waves might understand them and hence the assault on those people.

the movie was really good i liked it a lot, but the ending could have been a little better, they left a lot of plot holes like what happened to the gundam misters and the crew members. But overall good movie.

Can somebody tell me how it ends because i have seen the movie on the internet now and the ending is very disappointed. When i saw the comments below the movie i saw that people said that the ending not complete was. There would be a part where setsuna would see the other celestial being member and felt. Can somebody help me with this because i am very curious about this.

Personally I think it sucked, the whole alien shit? it does, are there any Final Fantasy fans out there? if there are and if you’ve seen the movie I’m sure you’ll find the ELS stories about their home planet being destroyed. Yes, the story here was like copied from the movie ‘Final Fantasy: the spirits within’, also, there are unanswered questions here like why did the dialogues gave the GN drive? how did they met aeolia schenberg and how did they communicate through him? what’s the shit about this whole understanding thing? So is setsuna suppose to be like the Messiah in this movie and save mankind by turning himself in? Personally I think Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny are still the best Gundam series ever,the 00 movie was just so off, how did the humans got to veda in the start? how are the innovades made? there’s a lot of loop holes in the movie.

It woulda helped the movie out if the had put flashbacks from the begining of the move near the end, where the resolution of the movie took place. For example when setsuna shot that ELS that had taken the form of someone he knew. If yall payed attention the ELS when he was walking to Setsuna, had his Arms wide open as if he was tryna to show he meant no harm. Yet Setsuna blew him up anyways. Which conveys the whole misunderstanding thing. I loved this movie tho, im not a fan of Gundam but i loved the Gundam 00 series ^^

Hey Guys, also watched the Movie. I would disagree with the comments with regards to the ending as it seems to be in the spirit of Gundam 00. It is a sort of nice ending, tying up all bits. The fights are the best though!
