PSPGo: UMD Owners Screwed

Are you one of the many people that want the new PSPGo? Do you have a older PSP and a collection of games you were hoping to transfer to your PSPGo? Well it looks like you’re out of luck; Sony currently has no intention of finding an option for UMD owners to play their old games on their new system; despite the fact that at E3 they told hopeful fans they were looking into a solution to the problem.

“We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time…”

“At this time” is a very ambiguous statement, but considering it took Sony almost an entire console generation to realize they needed to drop the price on their PS3 for it to sell, I can imagine it might be a long long wait.

It looks like the PSPGo should now have to be renamed the PSPNo! Besides the $250 price point and a long list of issues I have a feeling alot more than grumpy Dutch retailers will saying no to this whole system. Personally I believed the biggest market for the new PSPGo would have been old PSP owners who might trade in their old systems for a discount on the new for the option of digital downloads; but that clearly doesn’t seem like a tangible option if you have older games you don’t want to throw out.

Go cost a lot here, it’s 412 SGD (If I remember correctly) and the PS3 Slim will retail at a price of 512 SGD.. Who the hell would want to spend 400 bucks for a PSP with no removable battery?! -_-. I will be better off with a PS3 Slim. LOL.

Boycott the Go!! Say No to the Go!!!

Lols. I think I’d rather invest more time in my NDS should my current PSP die out, rather than upgrading to the Go!. Scribblenauts here I come. :D

Well, it’s not like the UMD disc was a big seller anyways. When movie studios backed away, Sony figured the game was over. Lack of backwards compatibility though does suck though :\

^ I don’t think Backwards compatibility is really the issue… its more like…
Lets say that all the old PS3 games didn’t work on the new PS3 Slim… It would be like that LOL xD
Naturally you have alot of fanboy rage… because it was like you’re getting punished for supporting their company all along.

@ M: OBJECTION!!! Phoenix Wright must be the first game you play xD

While the UMD drive may not have been the most popular device to store games or movies, think about all the current PSP owners. All their UMDs would be wasted on that new device. It would make no sense to carry 2 PSPs around.

Played PW1-3, Apollo Justice already. Haha. I’m still stuck on Gyakuten Keiji though, that new Miles Edgeworth game. 2nd last case, I’m just too lazy to check GameFAQs.

I can’t see why anyone would want to by a PSPGo…. I really wonder if anyone in Sony’s gaming division is thinking these days.
