Nintendo: Cheating is A-OK!

Mafia Cheat

I was under the impression that there were at least two main elements of what makes a game of a video game… 1.) To be entertained, and 2.) To be challenging on some level. But apparently Nintendo thinks other wise and is planning a new system for more casual gamers that can bypass the whole “Challenging aspect.”

Earlier this year, a Nintendo patent came to light that described a function that would allow players to “skip” parts of the game they found difficult. This system eases the pain of completing a difficult game, without watering it down so much that it turns hardcore gamers off.

Part of me died inside when I read this…
I’m not exactly a “Hard Core Gamer,” but the concept that people with no skill can say “I BEAT XXXX” when they skipped all the difficult parts is kind of upsetting. That would be like if I was taking a test and the teacher gave me the option of skipping all the information I don’t know and still giving me an A. I do understand that Nintendo plans to keep the difficulty IN the game… but honestly… if there’s an option to skip even of course lazy gamers are going to skip it xD

So what are other’s oppinions on cheating in games in general?
Do you read players guides? GameFaqs? Did you have a game shark?  Call the Nintendo Help-line?

I generally only cheated on my second play through a game; I can only think of a few circumstances where I HAD to cheat… One was in Dark Cloud One because I couldn’t figure out how to build the stupid desert village correctly, And in Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 and Valkyrie Profile for the PS1 because I was too young when I played them and I didn’t know what the heck I was doing.

I remember the only time I was FORCED to buy a players guide (before I had the internet) was while Playing Zelda: Majora’s mask. There was some sort of water temple I had spent hours in and couldn’t figure out how to get to the next area. Apparently you’re supposed to let these Eal monsters attached to the wall attack you and they throw you to the correct area. Since I never let any of them hit me I had no idea xD Ended up needing the players guide to get the bunny mask too… That was alot of work.

I remember my older brother… back in the days of Super Nintendo racked up a huge phone bill calling the Nintendo Help-line asking how to solve puzzles in the RPG game Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. But I can proudly say I beat that whole game without any assistence when I was only 9 =3 (Which is a surprise since I tried to re-play it last year and realized just how hard it really was).

This system is supposedly for more “Action” games like Mario from the sounds of it… But I’ve NEVER cheated in a game like that. I have alot of pride in some of the games I’ve beaten. I found it very ironic that Nintendo… the same people that made Animal Crossing with that Evil Mole Mr. Ressetti that goes on eternal rants that you shouldn’t reset games when things aren’t going right because you can’t reset life, would make a system where you can skip things xD

Scared the crap out of me the first time he showed up and I never did it againxD

Anyways… I’ll end with the video because I feel its on topic

Oh come on Nintendo. I like ur idea of causal gaming but this is taking a wrong turn.
if this was the case then as the game gets more challenging, people can skip it to the end and watch the ending. The logic is the game gets more challenging as it advance onwards so Nintendo gonna change that it!? 0_o
Nintendo gonna lose more regular gamers at this rate. -_-

Nintendo doesnt care about the casual gamers.

They make more money selling Wii and WiiFits and Wii Addons to the casual gamer segment.

@ M: Nintendo doesn’t care about ANYONE xD

    I corrected your statement.
They just like to sit back and count their monies.
