PlayStation 3 Expected To Sell 500, 000 Units Due To FFXIII Launch
The PlayStation 3 seems to be doing very well after the Slim’s launch in Japan. Now, President of Enterbrain - Hirokazu Hamamura told Bloomberg Japan that the PS3 will sell 500, 000 units in the month of December with the help of Final Fantasy XIII’s launch. As we all know, Final Fantasy is Square Enix’s longest running and also most popular franchise. So it is not surprising that sooner or later, somebody will have this kind of expectation.
Enterbrain is Japan’s leading magazine publisher. The magazines they publish are focused on video games and computer entertainment (e.g. Famitsu). I don’t know whether Hamamura’s expectation is too high or not, but what do you guys think?

I’m sure the PS3 sales will be helped by Final Fantasy XIII, but it’s still an awfully expensive system.
I’d love to have one — for the eventual English-language release of Final Fantasy XIII — but it’s just not in my budget right now.
As would be expected, Final Fantasy is just too epic. Especially since it’s a PS3 exclusive in Japan as well.
I was actually going to wait to get a PS3 for FF XIII…. until they delayed the thing to 2010….. But anyway, i can definitely see more people buying PS3’s when FF XIII comes out. I would have been one of them lol.
If they release a FFXIII bundle with the PS3, then I’m sure it’s gonna sell like hotdogs.
Saying that, I find that prediction very true.
U know there are a lot of FF fans out there.. And they will just part with any amount of cash just to get the bundle XD.
zenical: Not necessarily. FFX was my main argument for buying the PS2, although I had to wait almost 2 years before I could afford one.
Same for the PS3 now. FF XIII is most likely the main argument, though now, there are a couple of other games I’d like to play too. I already own Disgaea 3 (and Cross Edge is pre-ordered, and who knows if Ar Tonelico will be for the PS3 too)… but it’ll still take a while until I can play it. Guess I’ll either have to save little by little, or just wait another year until price goes down again.
@ nekosasu: Just an excuse, the main thing why you want to buy the PS3 is still because of FFXIII :P.
@zenical: Never said the contrary, my only point was, that I wouldn’t buy a PS3 immediately after FFXIII is released, because little monies. Might take a while until I will, though. And I’m not even sure if I wanted it just for FF now either, since I’m on a heavy Ar Tonelico trip at the moment. We’ll see how it turns out. :P

Couldn’t agree with you more… One of the main reason that I am having trouble deciding between a PS3 or Xbox360 is the price. The X360 Elite and PS3 Slim may be the same price, but we have to take into account the prices of games and accessories and subscriptions.

I think a PS3/FFXIII bundle is pretty inevitable =P it’s just a matter of time. I can just imagine X360/FFXIII bundles sitting next to PS3/FFXIII bundles XD.

That’s great! I’m getting a PS3 around next year as well. Mainly for Final Fantasy XIII and Uncharted 2 =).
