Japanese Jury Duty
Read an interesting article over at Danny Choo about how there are protests to the jury system being included in the Japanese legal system. I’m not familiar with Japanese law (or the American Legal system outside of Judge Judy and Law and Order), so I didn’t realize there wasn’t a jury system in Japan until this. And then suddenly it hit me….There’s no jury in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney!!! No wonder innocent people kept getting indicted by an old fart who you could probably bribe with cake. Instead of a crappy anime public message they should teach Japan about the legal system through a new Phoenix Wright Game!!!
I can actually think of one game where there’s a Jury during a trial… In Chrono Trigger you are accused of kidnapping the princess. Based on certain actions you made during the game and the trial the verdict of the jury is different every time (I’ve never been able to get unanimous innocent verdict… there’s always that one stupid guy that accuses me of being guilty for the lulz.) But even with 9/10 saying I’m innocent they give you the death penalty in the end because the chancellor is a jerk.
I’m pretty sure in the United States you only have to serve on Jury duty if you’re a registered voter (which I am not.) What is Jury duty like in other countries? I hope its better the American Legal system… Trials in America are something like this:
