I was told before I watched this episode that it was a very “ZOMG” episode. While it takes alot for me to go “ZOMG” I do have to admit I was a little shocked by the events at the end of this episode. This episode is more chibi Ranka flashbacks, Alto romance, And a giant Rei Ranka towers over earth blowing up everyone up… ohhhh… wait a minute~ Wrong anime right?xD… righto.o…

This episodes starts off… again with Aiiiiimoooo~ Aiiiimooooo~ If I have to here that song one more time I may become some sort of Aimo Zombie or somethingXD But we get Ranka’s full flashback, where chibi Brera is fully included. Ranka’s singing ended up calling the Vajra in to destroy the colony though in the end… which probably explains why she forced herself to forget. Her singing killed everyone.

The story goes back to the SMS which are exploring the ruins of Ranka’s old home for any information about the Vajra and what evil “4-eyes” is planning on doing. From the information they discover they again can prove that Ranka’s power came from being introduced to the Vajra virus while still in her mother’s womb. They also discover the master plan is to somehow hook the human race up like the vajra’s brain are. Where humans are all essentially one entity, and they can all read each other’s thoughts.

I don’t think anyone wants to see this guy’s thoughts…

The human instrumentality project This system wouldn’t make everyone perfectly equal though, there would be a few people that would be stronger nodes to control the rest, and probably one ruler of them all.

Back on Macross everyone is preparing for the final battle… and…

Lulu Luca needs to learn its not nice to steal girl’s kisses Dx

Alto also goes to visit Sheryl before the big battle…

That has to be the cheesiest pick up line I’ve ever heard…
But it worked=____=

Alto promises he will return to her no matter what. Sheryl also tells him that he needs to save Ranka. (unlike Alto’s original plan to kill her…). Sheryl gives Alto her last earing as a good luck charm.

The final battle for human kind begins. Macross needs to conquer the Vajra planet or they will soon die. (They’re running out of supplies, and their colonies are failing.) The Vajra don’t plan on giving up without a fight though… Four eyes is manipulating Ranka and Brera to help the Vajra while she tries to become the “queen” of the Vajra system somehow.

Ranka is captured inside Vajra capital.

The battle starts off perfect. They have Sheryl singing which is interrupting the Vajra’s fighting style. It looks like they were really going to win till Ranka starts to sing. For some reason when she starts to sing her singing is amplified by the Vajra system and she figure becomes bigger than the entire planet.

Sheryl and Ranka’s songs fight against one another, but its clear Ranka is winning against the Vajra.

Alto tries to get closer to her, to ask her why she’s doing this, but Brera attacks him yelling not to get close to his little sister (awww). But its very sad how brain washed he is at this point. In the end Alto’s ship gets shot down… and… and…

Impressions

Evangelion… I know that has a big influence on alot of anime… but… I feel macross is taking it close to copyright infringement levels. Putting aside Colonies and battle of the pop stars in every episode lets look at the plot.

1. Boy who has poor decision making skills becomes a pilot after being pulled into a chaotic scene… He also has issues with his father and his mother died when he was young.
2. Short haired red eyed girl, who’s not exactly human. (Maybe her personality is the opposite of Rei… but not if you watch the last episode of Eva and what her personality would be like if she was normalXd)

3. A long haired foreigner with an attitude and a dark childhood shows up.

Human kind is on the brink of extinction as they’re continually being attacked by alien creatures or some sort.

The last episode and this episode I couldn’t help thinking that the Vajra system of communication they want to implant in humans is way to similar to the Human Instrumentality project in Evangelion. And now we have Giant Ranka killing everyonexD… It just feels… very similar.

I guess there’s no point in thinking about it too hard… I just want to see what happened to Alto at this point. Because its obvious he’s not going to die.
